Maybe it's traditional to launch on "quiet" news days, so that any problems can be ironed out before the traditioanlly busier Monday to Friday slots??????

Usually its quite good to launch on a single, pre-ordaned story.
News 24 launched on the Victory Parade day of England winning the Webb-Ellis World Cup. It allowed them to use prepare graphics and such and really "show off" any new equitment.
I wonder if Sky will try something simular or like said above merly go for a slow news day?

I'm sure this was just coincidence, as News 24 had always planned to relaunch a week earlier, but they were delayed at the last minute by the big BBC power cut.

I've gotta say, I am getting a little bit worried about this whole relaunch malarkey - presenters such as Viv Creegor, Sheila Jansen, Lisa Aziz, Paula Middlehurst and now David Foster won't be playing any part in it. To me, certainly Viv and Paula are very much Sky News, I hope they're not trying to introduce a younger lineup of presenters. As good as presenters such as Ana Boulter and Anna Jones are, it will be a shame to lose some of the Sky News faces as it will feel like a very different channel to what it is now. On the other hand, Sky's loss is probably ITV's and BBC's gain, they will be losing some great presenters.

People say that, but Sky havn't announced their full schedule yet. As far as I know, the only confirmed slots are Sunrise, with Eammon and Lorna, Kay Burley's programme, Jeremy Thompson's programme and Julie Etchingham.
This leaves a lot of space to fill. The evening for example and the whole weekend. Perhaps people shouldn't jump to conclusions without fact. The only people that definately won't be a part of Sky News' relaunch are Lisa Aziz and David Foster who have both left Sky.
I personally hope Viv and Sheila are involved in some form post relaunch, not too fussed about Paula though. She is a sound presenter, I just can't warm to her.

Ticker
The text will be white on a red background with a white outline around the ticker. The ticker starts at the edges of the 4:3 safe area so does not scroll across the entire 16:9 picture. The Sky News bug and clock will move to the far left of the ticker.
Logo
As you know the logo is Red and White - For secondary services such as Online and Active they appear below the Sky News logo with white text on a black background with a white outline around the box.
Sky News will probably relaunch on Monday 10th October 6.00 am.

The mocks forum contains martin's attempt to mock these designs.
I'm not convinced by the "white on red" ticker- I suppose the CNNi ticker is like this (I think?), and they've had to go for a very deep red colour to avoid bleeding and loss of word clarity.
So I think if this info is true, the red used by Sky may not be quite as intense as currently seen- IMO this would be a good thing.

This from today's Media Monkey in the Guardian's Monday media section
Quote:
Sky News is set to spark a new round of big screen envy with its multi-million relaunch. Monkey hears its new, improved newswall is the biggest yet, and makes ITV's expensively assembled virtual reality backdrop look like a 14 inch black and white portable by comparison. But not all is running as smoothly as they might have hoped. The relaunch has been delayed by problems with the soundproofing at Osterley, with planes travelling overhead to Heathrow spoiling the otherwise Zen-like calm of the newsroom. The roof is now being hastily adapted to put things right.

Does this mean that the clock will be out of the 4:3 safe area then?

I'm surprised how acurate to the ticker I got, anyway, here are examples of the logos we are to expect, also there are some 3D ones, as we have been told to expect a slight 3D effect on the graphics...

"Sky News will probably relaunch on Monday 10th October 6.00 am."
Seems pretty certain now. Sky also intend to change 70% of channel numbers as part of their updated EPG on this day and it would make sense to go for a big bang.
Can't be sure but this might mean Sky News moving from 501 ! Sky are introducing a new section for "Culture" under "Entertainment" and splitting news and documentaries. OTOH, it would probably not make a lot of commercial sense to play around with their flagship channels.
