And lose 30 seconds of advertising revenue? I doubt it.
If they do anything, it'll be to cut down the time even further i'd expect. I.e. have the ident run at .00 rather than .59.50, so they get an extra ten seconds of ad space.
Pity. I found the TOTH menu genuinely useful, whereas the "Coming Up"s prior to breaks rarely do anything to encourage me to keep watching.
Yep, the move to the current set was rushed forward in the wake of September 11.
I was abroad at the time so welcomed the chance to watch Sky News Sunrise on Fox, you're right they had people emailing asking to explain Cricket and the like (those 10min sports roundups every hour must have confused them - on a news channel!) although eventually Fox cut away whenever the sport came on.
Does anyone know why Fox showed Sky News, and of course, why they stopped? I'd assume the answer to the former is the time difference and not wanting to bother making programmes for the one or two viewers watching.
Additionally, I've never thought about this before- but do American news channels show sports news, and if not, why not?
I guess it was because it was a) free and b) provided overnight viewers with a service to watch that was live, when Fox couldn't produce one of similar quality. Plus they knew that Sky would namecheck them on air, so it was good for them.
I recall it stopped pretty sharpish when Sky started reading out those ''Sky is much better than Fox'' emails on air from viewers in the US. I think Fox tolerated about another day of it then pulled the plug.
As for sports, I think CNN used to do a sports show on CNN America, but don't think so any more. There's certainly some sports news on US channels, but it mostly amounts to brief updates - the sort of thing that Sky do at just after ten to the hour, and they are even less frequent than every hour.
In an interview with Media Guardian, Dawn Airey has promised more big name signings for the prime time Sky News, saying that one has just been completed. Does anyone have any ideas who it might be?
The 'one has just been completed' re: big name signing could be a reference to Eammon Holmes, or it could be someone else. Either way, no great surprise.
I know a few people have heard that Sky will be doing regular rolling/world news programmes in the peak time period, but I think they're well out of the ballpark with those sorts of comments.
They still have 8pm, 9pm, 10pm and perhaps 11pm slots to firm up. I wouldn't be overly surprised if one was a dedicated 'news hour' but I expect the other three to be big names and sticking with the 'content as a draw' approach that Sky One has been going for.
As for who those names might be, god only knows. I'm sure they'll be interesting, though.
Well that's a good signs. By all accounts, it sounds as though the newswall is a bit of a monster.
The comments on Digital Spy talk about it being as big as a NASA videowall... but don't they mean NASDAQ video wall? From memory, NASA doesn't really have one.
I'm sure we'll get to see it one day. It wouldn't surprise me to see them put the relaunch back even further. Can't help but think that if they still haven't signed everyone for their shows, 5 weeks hardly gives them enough time to develop formats around those presenters, producers, directors, rehearsals, graphics...
Anyone know why there was only one presenter on Live at Five last night, and for the two subsequent bulletins at 6 and 7pm UK time? I am guessing that you guys in the UK may have gotten an explanation during one of the regional opt outs, but here in the ME we were told nothing.
Strange to see Jeremy Thompson on his own for a full three hours. Surely if Vivien Creegor was unavailable at the last minute, they could still have drafted someone in for the next two hours, such as Juliette Foster from the exchange, or Juliet Errington who was nearby, or even the dreaded Colin Brazier.
As it happens, Jeremy did well for a full three hours, although he is clearly not used to being without a sidekick. He seems to becoming more bumbling day by day.

There's an absolutely huge one in mission-control, often seen on news reports when space shuttles are being launched / landing / in trouble.
This relaunch is getting boring now, it has gone on for so long and hardly any information. I thought Sky would want to show off its new building, considering how good they are saying it is.

Why would they want to show it off to a few geeks on this or other websites? Surely if you wait a little longer the reveal will have more impact. Good things take a long time to develop, unless of course you want a half finished set and graphics put to air?

I know, but to see it was first reported to be launched after Christmas last year, it is dragging on a bit isn't it? And TV companies do usually reveal a little bit about the new look before it is launched.
