Is this true? I can't believe more people watch BBC News 24 than Sky News!! Shocked
http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2005/08_august/01/news24.shtml

Yep - News 24 has been edging ahead for months in weekly reach etc. Obviously there are points in the day when one channel will have more viewers than others - but taking a "bigger picture" view - News 24 had been narrowing Sky's lead for a while - and last year overtook it.

Note these figures are for News 24 viewing - not for viewing of News 24 output on BBC One or Two, and it is accepted that when News 24 output is simulcast on BBC One or Two the viewing figures for News 24 are often lower than they would otherwise be (as people watch on BBC One or Two if they find it there)

AIUI in Sky households Sky News does better - because it is the first news channel in the EPG, but in Freeview households BBC News 24 does better because it is first in the EPG... The BBC may be benefiting from the rise of Freeview to an extent.

I think that there are some viewers who just instinctively go to the BBC for news - these may be the older viewers, who are only now beginning to go digital with Freeview boxes.

According to the Sky News Centre, Sheila Jansen, Paula Middlehurst and unfortunately Vivien Creegor are not a part of the relaunch.

That's a shame - I always thought of Sheila Jansen as one of the most under-used anchors on Sky. So what, they ditch super Jansen yet keep newer awfulness like Emma Crosby and Angeline Rau (sp?)? Me no understand.

I'm not one to gloat usually, but I do recall saying that it would be October back in February or March. I also recall being rubbished for it.

To me, October always seemed like the most likely month for a relaunch - based on the last relaunch in 2001.

It's a shame that Viv will be leaving - always rated her highly as a newsreader - warm whilst holding gravitas.

You're really asking for it, aren't you?

Given that even the people at Sky didn't know, and probably still don't have, an official relaunch date, I hardly think you are in any position to come on here and tell us all how right you were.

I am sad to learn of the departure of Vivienne Creegor. She will be a loss to Sky News. However, I am pleased to announce the fact that she is in talks with ITN to co-present a re-vamped Late News alongside Mark Austin.

Such a shame. Viv is an excellent presenter and has been with sky since day one.

Interesting what you say about Viv.

I will wait and see, but I'm with 'cat' on this, that I don't believe the evenings will stay the same as they are now, but another 'personality' led show will come to light, and or a Newsnight-style show.

I'd thought they might have another bash at 'The Frank Bough Interview' or 'Tonight' style chat show, but still at least another month to go before the go live, so I've no doubt that more details will come to light.

I'm very surprised that Vivien Creegor is leaving. I hope she's taken on by News 24 as she's a very professional and able presenter.
