Is this really a step in the right direction for a Blue Peter presenter?
Just shocked to see him presenting on such a small channel.
He'll be on TV Travel Shop before we know it! lol

Sky Sports News is by no means a 'small' channel. In viewing figures perhaps - but then so are all news channels, if measured by that barometer.

Getting back to the new look - I've seen it and I can safely say it looks very much like a mixture of the Polish TV news set and MSNBC's (see a few pages back) It's basically a rotating desk with a small plasma screen in the centre of it with various backdrops (depending on where the desk is looking over) There's a huge newswall and another glass wall with a visible production gallery. There's also a balcony surrounding the set with reporters and specialists based 'within the set'. There's also a comfy area in the top left hand corner of the set, which is accessed by stairs. Very, very impressive. I think you will all like it! If you like American-style ott sets, you'll love this one!

Indeed, Sky Sports News absolutely mauls Sky News in ratings terms (along with mauling News 24 and obviously ITVNC), whilst costing a fraction of Sky News' operating costs.

Sounds interesting about the studio, will be intersting to see on air.

Noticed tonight that Julie was presenting at 7ish - i take she did Live at Five then. This must a first for her presenting in the evenings.

I must admit i'm suprised at his career direction. I thought he would pick something that would let his personality shine through like blue peter did.

i feel with the new sky news studio, that for a few weeks possibly days, everything might be a bit out of place. such a big broadcasting area is something Sky News never had, many might feel that this is a bad move, just like the BBC Weather Razz but i feel that if they go for something like MSNBC, sky news will improve.

i for one, kinda get sick of sky news at times. i am on my summer break from school at the moment, and as you can guess i get up at like 10 or so, the first thing i turn on is Sky News (then kerrang!), but usually i would turn it back on at 2 or so, then again at 7 for sky news ireland, for the headlines. what i get sick of is that all the time on sky news, it looks the same, other then the mini-studio in the news centre.

at least now sky news will have several brodcasting areas so it will feel much differnt and a bit more interesting to watch.

would the graphics (not the titles) be different for each of the different programes? or would they all use a generic template, a bit like BBC News 24?

From what I gather, Sky News have hired a company to look into the various 'brands' pf each of the new programmes as well as the channels itself, so maybe there will be specific idents and graphics for each programme, within the overall Sky News theme of course.

The Holiday programme will be looking for a new presenter soon, after Ginny Buckley leaves for Sky News. I would have thought he would have been a perfect candidate to take over. But I suppose it must be sports reporting he wants to get into.

Although Craig Doyle went from Holiday to BBC Sport!

In answer to the previous question to me, which was 'How do you know what the studio looks like?' - The studio complex is now open to all staff members and friends as fivenews is already in there. It's not exactly a high-security operation! I'm an employee though so don't anyone panic! Needless to say the set is very nice. However, I saw one test of the videowall showing the LIVE Big Ben backdrop and the picture looked very stretched and blurred. Let's hope they fix that problem!
