Sky News did used to do world news bulletins, up until around 2001. They did around 3 slots a day.

Perhaps Sky are catering for their viewers in the southern hemisphere.
But I agree that there should be more world news on UK news channels. This could also just be testing the water prior to relaunch, who knows.

I know one of the contractors working at Sky...
He tells me the new newsroom is finished...
All the computers, the gallery, desks and chairs are all in place...
Staff are being trained....
There are at least 7 different presentation positions within the working newsroom... a huge newswall... a soft area... and a massive rotating James Bond baddie style desk in the middle!

Well, as I have mentioned numerous times now, the MSNBC set was visited by Sky execs and presenters a while ago, along with other US studio centres, when they were looking at designs for the place. They liked it a lot.

However, isn't the MSNBC studio just about to undergo a massive revamp as they transition to ''NBC News Channel'', so goodness knows what they'll come up with next.

I doubt that the launch date of the studios will be first time that we see them. They'll no doubt have a big feature in Sky Magazine and be doing trailers for at least a week or two beforehand. As such, the first we'll see will be in September's Sky Magazine and some time around the end of August when they start doing promos for the new schedules... so says I.

Quite sure this hasn't been posted before.

From AdRepublic:

Beattie McGuinness Bungay has won the creative and strategic planning business for Sky News, in preparation for its £20m relaunch in the autumn. The account was handed to the agency without a pitch.

The appointment will see BMB working with Sky News to promote the news channel and produce all the advertising surrounding the relaunch. The agency will also work with the design consultancy Wink on the on-air brand, and is said to be taking a role in the development of programme ideas.

BMB's appointment does not affect Sky's existing arrangements with HHCL/ Red Cell on the overall Sky brand, nor with Wieden & Kennedy on Sky One.

Trevor Beattie, a BMB founding partner, said: "This is an absolutely key win for us. Sky News gives us a chance to demonstrate what we'll be all about going forward. The chance to be involved in everything, from the ground up, is a dream come true."

Commenting on the appointment, Barnaby Dawe, the Sky Networks director of marketing, said: "BMB's approach as an agency is very much in line with our strategy for Sky News -- using content as a marketing hook will be key in attracting new viewers to the channel."

Sky News is the second piece of business to go to the start-up. Last month, French Connection moved its account from TBWA to BMB.

Beattie and his co-founders, Andrew McGuinness and Bil Bungay, have previous experience with a television client, having worked on the Five account at TBWA.

I really like both the MSNBC and TVN24 studios. Hope they are a template for the Sky News one (and by the sounds of things, they are).

I really hope the lightness of the studio will change as the day goes on, becouse i find with Sky News Today, the studio is way too dark. Possibly they will present Sunrise from a really bright comfortable set (i guess the sofa set), Sky News Today coming from both of those, and most the afternoon programes coming from the revolving desk (which i like the idea of). And then programmes coming from the numerous sets around the studio.

i just though, that if Sky News UK will get revamped, would Sky News Ireland and Austrailia all get new looks too? For Sky News Ireland, i would guess just a new colour scheme in their newsroom, with a new logo, but thats it.

Sky News Ireland being simply an opt-out of Sky News UK (and using a near-identical on-air look) I would imagine it will relaunch at the same time as UK. Australia would be a different matter and I believe it was a few months after the last UK relaunch that Australia relaunched?

Does anyone hear feel that Martin Popplewell would suit BBC News 24 better than Sky News? I was watching him earlier and just had a feeling that he had a style of newsreading that would blend in better with News 24.
Comments please
