Well I think we can safely say that fanoftv will hate the colours, Jay will love everything, Martin will have the logo and font recreated and ready to distribute within 30 minutes of the new look being unveiled, Square Eyes will say that Sky News has reached it's lowest point ever, I'll wet myself, and the mocks forum will fall offline due to the large amount of new Sky News mocks being uploaded. Three days later a new member by the name of "skynews_megafan" will want to know when Sky News is relaunching.
That's the comments sorted, all we need now are the graphics and set.

Wow, all this over the transparency level of the on-screen clock. Just imagine how much discussion we'll have when the whole channel relaunches.

so true lee, although I'm sure they will still be using SkyBrands for their logo, they may even keep it the same as it is now, perhaps a slight change of colour.
I am more interested in how they will be formatting their programmes in this new Centre. I don't expect any big advances in graphics, except maybe we will finally put their weather pres to death, I am sure its over 10 years old...

As long as they don't go for terracotta or sage green it should be fine by me.
Why are there a rush of mocks for something right after a relaunch, it's all very strange.
I do like that capture of the Sky News New Zealand studios (or was it Australia?) with the 8 screens at the back, lovely metallic with well positioned lights, very nice.
It looks very nice and shows what can be done in a tiny space without being too overpowering, too cluttered and/or too boring.
Does anybody know of any where with bigger images of it please?

Yes, and you'll say the quality of the theme is not - and never will be - any better than BBC News. You'll say that whether they change their music or not.
I didn't expect much from News 24 and ITV News when they relaunched, but this time I'm expecting more. I'm almost certain that there's going to be those little things that disappoint me slightly, for example the odd colours when News 24 relaunched, or the old-looking astons from ITV News.
I've tried to imagine and recreate the set (going by what has already been posted), and if the set is going to be as big and grand as this, the spaciousness, lots of glass... I almost expect the graphics and everything else to be on the same level.
If you go by what Sky have done to Five - the use of transparency (on the coming up bit before the break), the funny glass on the first floor... I'm sort of expecting to see the same kind of thing but on a much larger scale, and obviously in Sky's style and colours. If they can do what they appear to be able to do on Five (design aside), the new Sky News should look quite impressive.
Then again it could be a load of cack. Wait and see, as usual.

Now that's impressive. It looks like a warehouse with a few desks and a big screen. It does look very impressive. Is that light blue ring the upper level with the metallic thing on the right being the stairs, or haven't you included two levels.
I'm not sure how practical a set like this would be, as surely the only presentation area is the screen area that seems a bit sunken, or would other areas be out of the picture.
That interests me, part of your reply about ITV News' old looking astons, I'm not disagreeing with you, but is there a reason for this? Haven't they got the technology at ITN that Sky News have at their new building to play out fading and animating astons like on the new five news?
I also notice that the new Channel 4 News astons animate in the same way as ITV News', perhaps this is the case, does anybody know anymore, or is it the fact that they've designed the boringly, rectangular and straight edged with a simple animation?

That is a second level, I haven't spent much time on it so it's not as complete as I meant it to be. Someone like Martin could probably make a better job of it and make it look more complete! There would be a desk in the centre and various other points around the place, that wasn't meant to be the only area.
I would imagine more things going on around the main area, perhaps even a mini second level that would sort of 'hug' that main area. Much like the bridge on the Enterprise! But perhaps not as many control panels. I suppose I could work on this more.
Anyway, my ITV News reply. I think it's fairly clear that ITN doesn't have the same level of technology as Sky because if ITN had the ability to do what Sky are doing on Five, wouldn't they do it? ITV's astons IMO are really ugly, the yellow line through them is something I'd imagine to see on some american news programme where they have just a red line and text above and below it. It looks old to me.

It's very good so far though, I doubt I could have even created the screen in the centre.
As for ITV News, I do agree about the yellow line. There whole graphics seem plain and 2D, but then again the same could be said about Sky News and News 24, it's more the fact that they've been thought out more and are associated more with the design of the channel, rather than ITV's whose looks to be a simple effect with the logo on which is always coloured by the big yellow thing on the channel.
They can do animation within astons as they did with the previous set which were nice with the wire globe spinning, maybe they should add the cubed globe spinning to an aston. Plus they have that nice effect of the zooming squares as used on the main news, though it may cause over use if they did that with all astons.
It would be nice to see a graphical update at ITN, but I suppose until they have the power to go widescreen (or perhaps they're scrooges), we won't see anything soon.
