Yea saw that this morning. Seems strange to have a new programme launch at this stage before the relaunch, but I guess they don't want to change too much on relaunch day.

Sounds a bit like The World Today BBC World/BBC News 24 simulcast between 0500-0600?

Anyone else seen the promos running on Sky News for a new
programme, Sky World?
It starts next Monday, and runs from 4am to 6am!
They seem to be offering a round-up of world news, business and showbiz.
I guess as they are broadcast around the world, they know that lots of people in Asia, Africa, Australia, even America, will be watching ???

Hopefully this isn't some pseudo-slot on the schedules, in the same way the Australia viewers are treated to ''newshour''... i.e. an hour of regular news programming with a different name.
Schedule, according to Sky EPG runs as follows:
4am - Sky World News
4.30 - Sky World Review and Business Report
5am - Sky World News
5.30 - Sky World Review and Business Report

Seems like a concrete reaction to The World Today and World Business Report from the BBC. Good that they're throwing business in there - have never forgiven Sky for dumping their business unit in spectacular style. More emphasis seems to go on business news these days - a u turn perhaps?
As cat says though - hope it's not just another "newshour" - had enough of programme strands that say they're different but not. Even Sky News Today isn't that distinctive anymore as a lot of what was pioneered on there is done in daytime hours anyway.
I hope the presenter lead programmes in the relaunch allow for more of a change in both the content and style of the programme. Can you imagine Eamon Holmes' Sunrise programme being the same as Jeremy Thompson's ? If so then they'll have missed a real trick.
Sky really fail cater to the audience at the time of day, instead going for 24 hour coverage which all looks and sounds the same.

Presumably the business news will be coverage of the opening Asian markets.
As such, I wonder if we will see Sky News Australia business presenters/correspondents (I'm sure there are a couple) doing it from Sydney. They'll probably go for Bloomberg, though, if anyone.
P.s. - and this really doesn't merit its own thread, but as its a news channel related thing, this place will do - has anyone seen al-Jazeera's new studios? I don't know how new they are, I've not watched it for a while, but the last time I looked they were in a crappy chromakey place.
Their new studio is rather impressive - a cross between CBS News with its balcony and double-decks and CNN International with colour and projection. Looks rather snazzy.

Didnt Sky News used to show world news in the evenings a few years ago? Im sure ive seen a clip somehwere with Alan King reading the 'Sky World News'
I think this is a good idea, but why confine the slot to only the early hours of the morning. Since everyone criticises America for being insular, why dont our broadcasters should provide more international news and analysis. The only time we see world news on the BBC is on News 24 overnights and a 20min summary at 9.30am, which arent really going to get much of an audience. I suppose there is always the World on BBC Four, but that always seems to focus on Africa or Israel/Palestine. If Sky or the BBC were to provide a full half hour of truely international news from ALL continents, I'd tune in without a doubt!
