Perhaps they saw the writing on the wall? Jumped before they were pushed. Lisa Aziz has only been on Sky News for a decade or so.
Sometimes though, change is not necessary. ITV1 is not loosing viewers because their idents are naff, they are loosing viewers because their programmes are, so .... they change the idents. Good call.
The same is true for Sky News. Change as in the new studio is fine. But why draft in old news 24 presenters or GMTV renegades with no news experience, when you have plenty of talent anyway, and most of it being pretty good too?
Believe it or not, it is OK not to change things. The world will not end. Someone needs to tell Nick Pollard that.
Saying Eamonn has no news experience is a little harsh. He may now be remembered as a 'presenter', but he is a journalist, and has coped with many news stories. In fact I believe he will be a great asset to Sky News, and we will really see him do well on the new-look Sunrise.

Maybe it is a little harsh, but I have to admit that I have no recollection of him being anything other than a 'presenter'.

I hope he proves you right and me wrong. Just as long as he remembers he is on a news programme, not on the Eamonn Holmes show. That's my biggest concern. You know, like Nicky Campbell was on Five Live before Shelagh bought him down to size.

Only switched on for about five minutes this morning, but didn't notice any promos for the new studios. STILL.
Are they actually going to bother telling anyone about this relaunch? Or, covertly, are they expecting things to go tits-up on day 1, and only advertise the thing when they've sorted it out?
Seems bizarre when they spend days advertising general election programmes that they don't bother to tell people about a 50 million plus revamp.

I might guess tomorrow they will have many reports about it, and possibly showing the past in that studio and then the future? Thats what I might guess, although on a Sunday I think its a bit silly.
I do rember the day before Sky News Ireland, launched Adam Boulton interviewed Grainne from the SNI studio, possibly they might do something similar tomorrow?

I hope they give Studio 2 a decent send off. It's been there since the first second on air, so I imagine it'll be a sad moment when they shut the thing down. I hope they make at least some reference to it tomorrow night.
Seems like they've got an absolute tonne of exclusives lined up for Monday. I think it's worth poining out now that the first week will probably be very much like this - high(ish) profile interviews that they've had lined up for ages and the real news agenda will get shunted around a bit - so making snap judgements, though we all will, is pointless. We'll probably have to wait at least a week until we can see what it's like when they've not had weeks of talking people into doing interviews with them, and are having to produce the entire programme on one day.

Looks like it will be the same as 2001 - post-revamp promos, explaning the changes. It was all a bit rushed in 2001 because the new set was brought into action earlier than planned due to 9/11, and the new ID, gfx etc. followed about three weeks later. I can't remember about the 1998 revamp, did they do pre-revamp promos then?
I'm puzzled by the lack of promotion as well, given it is quite a change from anything Sky has done in the past,.

You can clearly see the squares that make up the newswall in some of the publicity shots, whether these will be visable on screen is yet to be seen. However, it's odd that you can't see similar "joins" on the screen Barco provided for the London Stock Exchange (although I admit it is significantly smaller!)
The squares on the LSE screens are pretty easy to see.
You have to remember that Sky's screens are a lot smaller than the LSE screens too because, paradoxically, the newswall is bigger.
Sky needed lots of tiny squares so that the thing could curve around smoothly - you couldn't have that with lots of massive squares, it'd look odd - so there are more screens and perhaps that's why you can see more joins. As it is, I think it looks damn good.
Isn't the LSE screen a matrix of projector cubes (as is the current Sky Newswall) rather than an LED screen (as the new Sky Newswall will be)?
I'm not sure that the LSE screen is made from projector "cubes" as such - they seem to be much larger. The only joins I have noticed (and they are faint) indicate that the entire display is made up of 3 (or maybe 4) full length rectangular screens fitted next to each other. But perhaps I am missing something
I do like the new Sky News newswall though, and think it will look amazing on screen!
