Can anyone at sky explain to me why, when joan rivers was interviewed today in the main studio during Sky News Today, that clips of her used in a package on Sky News at Ten had her in the New Studio, with the lighting set to daytime yellow.

Polish news channel TVN24 already use such a gallery, in fact their studio, now a year old slightly resembles the new Sky News one with their rotating desk and different background, ie newswall or stacks of LCD monitors.

The new gallery...
are Sky the first to have a monitor stack like that? ie. from what I've seen it appears to be a large flat panel rather than individual CRTs or LCDs - so presumably can be configured with any number/arrangement of cameras and outside sources you might wish for?
And has anyone seen the graphics yet.
What's exciting and probably unique about this launch is not only the new set but the output changes as well. The 'press preview' sounds like it could be quite interesting, particularly if it were extended by 15 minutes so it began at 11.30. Likewise the Saturday morning magazine thing, depending on what the typical running order turns out to be.
The site indicates Sky have camera operators where I was under the impression it was all rademec - presumably they'll only do the daytime shows. Note there is a proper crane too...

To be fair, the BBC did that with their virtual 'cut glass' set in the 90s. And people just accepted it then.
It's not all that new - BBC Broadcast use lots of them in playout, and have done since TVC.

...and real, of course. I don't think your average "Joe Public" actually believes the ITVNC "theatre of news" is real. It's really insulting the viewers' intelligence when Trevor McDonald has a face-to-face interview with a green wall!

Yes, although they're not great if you want to constantly configure them to diffrent combinations. Burn-in on the screens is quite bad so you end up with lots of lines criss-crossing the screen

I must say the new set has grown on me alot over night - I especially love that new newswall and the fact it doesn't have any dividing lines or anything to distort the images put on it..
Can ITV seriously keep their 'Theatre of News' set after this? It just looks like a cheap and tacky version of the new Sky News studio now.

Yeah, I agree. It is going to be interesting how this new newsroom looks actually on screen. I hope they have lots of wide shots just to show the scale of the operation they have now.
I'm liking the new music a lot aswell. It is very dramatic take on the existing theme.
