So SNI at 7's moved to 6:30pm is confirmed. Very bad move - if they are going to put it up against both RTÉ News: Six-One and TV3 News at 6:30 then they might as well axe it all together, because very few will be watching it. (Business as usual then some skeptics might say...)

I see Sky News Today is now triple-headed - how wierd...

Also confirmed that the 10:30pm Sportsline is continuing. Good also to see the return of Technofile after a four-year absence.

The new studio looks rather good - although the test will be how it looks on-air. I think it was compared to CNBC US' old studio (with the rotating desk), but it looks a lot better than that...

It looks gorgeous from the official pictures - but as people have said, the real verdict should be reached once we've seen everything in action. I always think that publicity shots never look quite like the 'real thing' - the ones for the current set give it a different look to actual television viewing.

The only thing I'm anxious about are the graphics (except the logo) - both sets we've seen are...well, those white strap mock-ups (as people here have said they are - I defer to them on those matters) are plain nasty.

Has Sky News actually ever managed to have a decent set and decent graphics at the same time? Always seems to be one or the other to me.

The studio and graphics look really slick. My only concern is that it all looks too glamorous and glitzy for sombre news - can all the neons be turned off quickly to create a different atmosphere in the studio? Otherwise it looks amazing!

Also why is there no Wales Correspondant listed on their press office pdf file?

I like the look of the studio and it's very good of Sky to provide an interactive site to show everything to us "anoraks" Laughing . The new arrangement of the music sounds great, can't wait to see how they use it (possible headline inserts etc).

BSkyB have clearly spent a fortune on what is essentially a "loss-leader" of a channel (It gives them a very respectable presence on the world media stage without generating profit). What's amazing is that ITV plc don't view the ITVNC with a similar perspective.

Laughing Already set Sky+ to record Sunrise at 6am Monday! Laughing

The new gallery...

are Sky the first to have a monitor stack like that? ie. from what I've seen it appears to be a large flat panel rather than individual CRTs or LCDs - so presumably can be configured with any number/arrangement of cameras and outside sources you might wish for?

And has anyone seen the graphics yet.

What's exciting and probably unique about this launch is not only the new set but the output changes as well. The 'press preview' sounds like it could be quite interesting, particularly if it were extended by 15 minutes so it began at 11.30. Likewise the Saturday morning magazine thing, depending on what the typical running order turns out to be.

The site indicates Sky have camera operators where I was under the impression it was all rademec - presumably they'll only do the daytime shows. Note there is a proper crane too...

I think it's the one that has been dropped, I don't think we've heard what they've changed it to.

Very interesting quote about Live at Five on the press release:

Quote:
The programme... makes full use of Sky News’ new capabilities with Virtual Reality, both on the main set and in the purpose-built VR studio.

Very Happy

I don't mean to annoy anybody by posting this, but after seeing the new corporate globe image Sky News are going to be using and after hearing the new orchestral arrangement of the theme tune, it reminded me of this site I came across the other day ...

www.sky.com/skynews/onair looks like it'll be interesting when it's up and running - it's got sections on how the newsroom was built etc.

not much there at the moment - they're still testing it!
