Looks like they're getting Julie to do a "SnowMail" type-thing called SkyMail and JT's doing a blog which will apparently be an important part of Live at Five, which by the way is described as having a "focus on high story count and slick production".
What's the screen to the right of the desk? Will the weather come from here or is this just for presenters to see stuff?
Yeah I'm pretty sure the weather wil come from here, if you take a look at the video of Lisa Burke on the reach for the sky website, it has weather graphics on it.

It would also appear that it's not a projection screen, but just a green screen to key in images.
I've noticed the light blue section on top top of ticker (just above the clock, and roughly where the globe effect on the straps go). Is it possible that this blue flare like effect will gently scroll the along the top of the ticker? This effect is very common on Sky Sports, and you may remember on their last set of straps and astons (used before last August's new set), that there was a flare effect across the middle and the two parts of the aston came out of the effect. Perhaps the strap will animate out of this flare that appears to be attached to the ticker? Perhaps I'm getting to excited lol. how tragic.

"The weather team can use both Sky News’ newswall as well as virtual graphics with split screens."
"Join Francis Wilson and presenters Lisa Burke, Hazel Murray, Denise Nurse and Steff Gaulter every day at 20 past and 20 to the hour, as well as on demand weather forecasters via the red button on Sky News Active."
Can't help feeling that shot makes the newswall look a bit like ITV's Theatre Of News... except good.
...and real, of course. I don't think your average "Joe Public" actually believes the ITVNC "theatre of news" is real. It's really insulting the viewers' intelligence when Trevor McDonald has a face-to-face interview with a green wall!
I like the idea that Sky News have screens on the front of the desk. Very innovative - how long will it be before the others copy

Didn't Liquid News on BBC Three have a screen in front of the desk about three years ago? I seem to remember it showing two fake pairs of legs for the presenters once.... not sure Sky will go for that look though.
One of the most telling videos is the one under the '1 News Desk' section and the Foreign Editor.
The ''red alert'' of the lighting (half way through video) is just a bit worrying. Perhaps they took the Star Trek comments to heart. I really hope that doesn't happen on screen when there's breaking news!
It also shows what the old rectangular graphics would've looked like with breaking news. Awful, in case you're interested.
