Just turned Sky News on and noticed that they appear to be using the Sky News Today format of sorts with all of the hour so far presented from the newsroom (pod or newswall). Is this the case - that there be using this format - for every hour from now on?

I was wondering that myself - I turned on at 4, where they started the top of the hour with a swoop through the newsroom on the polecam, and haven't yet seen the desk in use. (That said, I wasn't paying attention when the sport started)

Maybe it's less of a stylistic thing, and just a spot of work being carried out on the desk? Anyone from Sky care to clue us in?

Ah, I spoke too soon. Mark's back at the desk now.

i have also noticed on the Sky EPG, that the menu is now saying Sky News On The Hour, rather then Sky News at it usually would

I noticed that as well a while ago.

mmm, prefer it to boring desk sitting... lets hope it continues...is their any maintenence being carried out in the studio (lighting etc) or was it just to see how it looked on screen...

I imagine they are trying to get viewers used to the newsroom environment as the presenting area. We know that the new studios will contain presentation areas mixed in with the newsroom rather than the two separated with a glass wall.

Would be interesting to know if rehearsals have begun in the new news centre? There must be someone with a little bit of information on this.

I would think that the change over will be done on the quiet I.E we turn on Sky News one day and find that they have already moved in. Sky has been very careful to keep the specifics of the new studios a secret and promotional stuff probably won't be broadcast until the change has been made.

Not like the old days where prior to the last makeover, we could see the builders in the newsroom beginning to dismantle desks.

I thought they weren't moving in until after the general election (May presumably).

If that's true there won't be a new studio yet, and screen tests would be.....oh......about 4 months away.

Don't get overexcited dears- this is going to be a long run.

Just spoken to a pal who works at Sky...
He confirms that the Sky 10-1 format has now been
extended through the afternoon team (1-5).
The producer of 10-1 has moved to the afternoon strand.... to help the transition...
My mate also confirmed that the move to the new studio WILL definitely co-incide with a complete new graphics package for Sky News.
They're working on it at the moment...
I don't really know much about graphics, but the move to the new studios will mean brand new equipment that will produce state-of-the-art graphics.
He doesn't know when the move is scheduled for.

I presume therefore graphics wise that we can expect something along the lines of the new five news.

Does that mean that the same producer is covering 10-5 or that now the scene is set for Today, somebody else has taken over.

The only thing that may happen is that it takes the emphasis from Sky News Today. In my mind it set the strand apart from the rest of the schedule as it was presented differently. Though if this is what it will be like throughout the day, maybe they will have to do something to make Sky News Today stand out.

The two people in charge of 10-1 and 1-5 have swapped places.

I'm sure this has been mentioned already somewhere so excuse me for any repeating that takes place between now and the end of this post.

I often take a look at the news channels at around this time most nights, although not recently. Two things I haven't noticed before. Firstly, the blue box housing the time is no longer slightly transparent like it use to be (a big change in graphics I'm sure you'll agree), and they seem to be in CSO mode. When did that happen?!

http://www.leeseaman.com/stuff/tvforum/skynewsgrab01.jpg

I say CSO but I don't really know, I just notice the different lighting that seems to be shining almost from behind, and a sharpish edge around the presenter. I also witnessed the camera moving up a bit (the presenter moved down) while the background remained static.

Maybe one of you can tell me what its all about? Smile

[edit] I think I'm probably wrong, it's just me overreacting.
