I know in the past people have been fans of Martin Stanford but personally I think he's a really poor newsreader, it just feels awkward when he's presenting- no wonder sky shove him on for just an hour! The likes of Jannet Jalil, Phillipa Tomson etc. are much better newsreaders and it just seems to flow much more naturally!

In contrast, I can't comprehend that you think Jannat and Phillipa are good newsreaders.
Jannat always looks unsure about what she is saying and Phillipa looks like she is suffering when she is presenting.

I agree with Martin being bad at it, Philippa does look a bit uncomfortable. She is better at Sunrise/Regional work, rather than hard news.

Live at five with Jeremy
I like Martin. Ive watched him on Sky for many many years. He is actually at his best when on location and at the heart of the story. I last saw him doing this during the Israel Lebanon war around 5 years ago when he was lauded for his coverage along with the maestro himself Jeremy Thompson. I think he comes across somewhat dour when doing the monotonous two hours that he currently does.

Jannat for me is a very good news-reader if she is doing the News, Sport and Weather and overnight shifts. or headlines for example and I think she's far better than Martin Stanford than this. However she is not great at interviews and doing an anchor role as she hesitates and stutters a bit too much.

Martin Stanford is really not suited to the role he is currently doing and you get the impression he hates reading from the autocue, he's dull and dour as others have said and very monotone.

Like L.A.F.W.J says, MArtin is good on location, at the heart of the story. He's also good with the whole 'tech' thing, finding different ways to convery a story, instead of a boring head shot of a presenter talking and talking!

As the restrictions on freelance presenters continue, another reporter, Isabel Webster, made her presenting debut last night on the midnight news.

Martin needs to walk around the studio when he is presenting. He needs to use the newswall more often and not sitting the whole time at that horrible desk.

Nevertheless Paula Middlehurst presented the last three nights.

Yes, but generally there are very few freelancers appearing now, they're using reporters as presenters when before you'd be seeing freelance cover.

I can't see the reason behind this. To me it nearly appears a bit inhumane.

I think you need to reflect on your use of the word "inhumane".

No different to the BBC News channel using Carole Walker, Louisa Baldini, Ben Geoghan etc. I don't see what the fuss is about!
