I think Sarah Jane Me was freelance but she's been regular cover for Sarah Hewson (on Maternity Leave) on Bolton & Co. and is now employed by Sky as opposed to been freelance I believe, even if only temporary.
Just because someone has been acting as regular cover, doesn't stop them from being freelance. Charlie Stayt, presenter of BBC Breakfast every weekend, is freelance.
I know that. My point is that is Its not unusal to get a contract as full-time staff as a maternity cover role.

I wonder if we'll get a big Breaking News strap up when it happens, Sky News camping outside the hospital and the BBC pipping Sky News to a first on screen interview?
Never mind camping out - I would expect Kay in the Skycopter tracking her trip to hospital and Martin at the news wall with graphics about giving birth and a camera man in the delivery suite!!
In all seriousness, I do not expect a news special but some mention would be nice and be fitting for a rare positive story for one of their own - just my opinion

I know in the past people have been fans of Martin Stanford but personally I think he's a really poor newsreader, it just feels awkward when he's presenting- no wonder sky shove him on for just an hour! The likes of Jannet Jalil, Phillipa Tomson etc. are much better newsreaders and it just seems to flow much more naturally!
