Obviously they had no comms on when he was due to begin but if a makeup person is on screen it's probably common sense to cut away and come back later.
The Breaking News set-up which has another element on it never has looked good in my view, you only want two segments there, a third one and it just looks messy with the old graphics it worked because it didn't eat into space for context but with the current ones it eats into that space.
Really for set piece events like elections I don't think there even needs to be Breaking News there whatsoever, simply FRENCH ELECTIONS with slightly different background like they had for US Elections, Vote 2017 etc instead of the red behind it would have looked a lot better.
When an unexpected story comes in I think the Breaking News graphics look fine when used with no additional heading and one or two lines of descriptive text, they are big enough and provide enough info, and look really nice.
However the additional headings destroy it, when it's a developing unexpected story/event after a while I think there is an argument to keep the breaking news colourset or black and yellow, but remove the BREAKING NEWS text and replace it with the topic so information provision isn't essentially sacrificed as it is now.
Generally I like the graphics as a whole, with two elements they are vastly superior to the old ones, but with three they just don't work.

To be fair BBC World News and MSNBC stuck with the pool feed while the makeup was being applied. It even looked like France 24 was cutting to the pool feed but just as they did it switched to the video of the satellite truck.
From a presentation point of view and in general The Campaign seems pretty good and is a welcome addition, Sophy doing pretty well on it.
However I really don't like the new whitish-blue that has replaced the previous blue below and around the screen, it just looks wrong and out of place:
The Mic and communications issues really need to be taken in hand now though, I assumed that they were just related to outside broadcasts but we're seeing them happen in studios as well, removing the transitions hasn't helped with this since it makes them look even more rough when something doesn't work right . Production quality isn't bad, but it's certainly suffering at the moment.
Also just now I caught the second half of the headlines for News @ 10, did they drop the background music or was it a mistake or issue? Sounded very odd and also showed up the echo nature of the glass box more than usual when Anna was reading the headlines.

Could somebody tell if the lack of the live wipes, logos and stings is a constant change or just temporarily? I have been noticing that since sunday.
I think it appears to be a conscious decision to remove them, I don't miss them that much in themselves, however the problem is that a few times I have heard presenters talking to someone when cutting from one place to another, where before there used to be a swish or a wipe etc which is most strange, almost like the presenter thinks they are off air a second or two before they are.
The transitions have been not right for a few days, hence right at the start of "The Campaign" where Sophy did a hand off to a blank white screen, followed by her saying "thanks" and the feature starting.

I'm not sure if it's related but while I was watching on Saturday night, the logos in and out of the weather/breaks broke just before 9pm. The Sky Sports News HQ logo appeared first followed by a frozen/garbled Sky News logo mid-close. This happened into the weather at 8:55pm, out of it and then a third time into the break. There was static TOTH at 9pm. I had to go out then so didn't see any more.
I managed to get a snap of it on my phone camera but I'm having some trouble uploading it at the moment... (Metropol account isn't working and Photobucket's upload doesn't work either!)
