Thoughts on Sky election night...

1. I hope for their election coverage they present it mainly from the studio this year. I found 2015 really disjointed, gimmicky and unnecessary moving from anchor to anchor across the country, rather than just Boulton in the studio.

2. the SIM cards... hmm.
An election night show full of endless declarations is really not interesting. They seemed to have spent a fortune on kit last time so they had to use it and viewers were treated to poor sound quality declaration after declaration. It was hard to hear the results and really nobody wants to watch 150 different returning officers say the same stuff. There's a sensible limit to the amount of lives to do in an election prog. 150 isn't it.

3. Speed. Despite all this tech, it did nothing for the speed of their results - they were still 15 minutes behind ITV. They should focus their resources there

Says I.

Graphics were lovely though.

So is the general election when the old studio is finally pensioned off?

Sky News special programme on the local elections is coming from the old studio too with the desk positioned as it used to be for Kay's 2-5pm show. Tom MacLeod presenting with Jon Craig at the desk for analysis.

They don't seem to have anyone at the screen in Sky News Center but instead keep cutting to pre records with Anna Botting in the Glass box on the pressure gauge for each party

Professor Michael Thrasher has joined Tom and Jon at the desk in the 2am hour

Press Preview and CBS Evening News still being shown at half past each hour until 3am

While I wouldn't put it like that, the answer is ostensibly yes, though you might see live injects from correspondents from the old desk in the event of breaking news.

Little blooper there, Adam Boulton introduced the unsuccessful Midlands Mayor candidate and whilst doing so the coming up music started and went to a break just as they were about to start the interview!

And another one, Adam Boulton just said he didn't know who the guests were and could someone tell him who they are live on air.

Very poor.

I saw this and for an experienced journalist he could have dealt with the situation better. However, to be fair there was probably was a breakdown in communication which wasn't his fault and I imagine it's logistically difficult to organise so I would expect a few mistakes in a multiple hour live broadcast. He could have made a much worse mistake!

I've thought Sky's covarage has been pretty good with the local election and look forward to their coverage of the General Election.

Yes - granted, the coverage itself has been good, however there have been more communication breakdowns and little bloopers than I can ever remember seeing, I assume that Adam answered the way he did through frustration because in the previous half an hour or so there were a fair few more issues not just the two I posted, and him saying what he did was out of frustration rather than unprofessional, so no blame to Adam here.

Graphics are good though, but still prefer the big screen at the old studio to the one in the Glass Box.

Edit: Another one there, Adam going to a break before saying actually we're going to Jon Craig

Fair enough to point it out, but do you not have anything better to do than post a moment-by-moment account, complete (somehow) with a sense of moral effrontery?

Presumably there will still be a fall back studio apart from Westminster if the "glass box" needs maintenance from time to time?
