Just out of curiosity, what's the reason for going back to the old studio today rather than using the glass box? In fact, why do Sky News need to use the old studio at all now?

I think - looking at the calendar - we all know the answer to that question. Were it done any other way, doubtless, numerous TVF-ers would have to be given medical assistance!

The glass box building isn't really open on bank holidays and weekends as it is like a village with even a little waitrose. that is why they use the old studio

Well yes, I'm aware what day it is. I was just wondering what it is about it being a bank holiday that means they have to use the old studio rather than the new one. Is it a staffing thing?

Partially, but let's just say there's a reason another set's being installed at Sky Studios for when the move happens.
Using the Glass Box would be a big mistake for the election, it does not have the depth or space or layout for the amount of people and information they are going to fit in there, the main studio used for the last election with the bigger screen there will be much better.
Wonder if Sky will push to complete their new studio in time for the Election!?
I can offer a pretty declarative "No" on that one. Everyone from sound engineers to presenters are being trained up on a whole new technical infrastructure with which you'd want everyone to be fully familiar for a set-piece event. Indeed, I've just returned home from my very first tutorial.
There's a lot more to this undertaking than just a new/different studio, and it involves everyone being fully comfortable with what they're doing so the content runs smoothly, so I'm sorry to say your pres-related itch will remain unscratched for some time to come.
Would Sky News use a different studio again (the last one I remember being different was in 2005), or is it best to keep everything in the current base for newscapturing reasons?

That I don't yet know. As I've said, though, the previous supposition about rushing the new studio/newsroom thinks only of pres factors rather than what it actually takes to run a newsroom, so it most definitely won't be happening.

They used a different studio in 2015.
