Can I just ask why UK broadcasters seem to make a mess of dtl/ insert studio backgrounds? When I look at CNN, it seems most of their bureaus around the world are kitted out with a good quality screen with a simple live view of where they are broadcasting from.

Al Jazeera seem to have real live window backgrounds for a lotof their reporters too.

But this background is nicer than the white swirls, I have to admit.

Windows require a lot more lining up to accommodate the conditions outside than a simple flat backdrop with controlled lighting that just needs turning on?

I don't think there was any doubting that.

That background has changed again. Now there is only 1 sky news logo either side of the interviewee which looks much better.

Tonight there has also been a nightshot of that background which looked more than stunning! Finally something I have been waiting for a long time. Good work! The clock of Westminster Palace is slightly overexposed to hide the time. The logos and glass panels are at the right place too.

Cue the avalanche of comments along the lines of: "Well, that's gonna look crap on-screen, and lead not only to the downfall of the channel, but of civilisation itself." Laughing

It depends on the broadcaster and who's providing the dtl position. CNN presumably only use CNN facilities which makes them easy to have a uniform look. AJ never seems that uniform to me, although from experience that the standard backdrop for Dtl positions in the middle east is a 'window' backdrop.

The BBC's dtl positions are a right mess, but that's because of where they are. Most are in tiny radio stations, some in their newsrooms, some tiny cupboards. They are as simple as possible and are of varying ages and there's no real need to make them all match. Some are in front of big logo'd displays which presumably causes problems when hired by a non BBC company, advertising BBC Radio Nantwich on Al Jazeera is a little pointless

The big centres with a few exceptions do have decent backdrops

I assumed as it is a new building they'd be in a brand new office space... but that looks like there's been quite a lot of wall taken out and at least two layers of paint on the back wall!

Do we know where the new newsroom is being situated? I'm quite surprised at how cramped it looks (low ceiling height, etc). A big reason for relocating Sky News last time around was the fact that journalists were working in very dark, cramped spaces.
