The sun reflecting on everyone is a real problem in the studio this morning

Indeed, sunny day in the 'Sky'

Sarah Jane did say at the end of that paper review that she hopes someone is able to pull the blind down. At the TOTH it seemed to have been sorted and a blind was pulled down!

Does Sky use some sort of internal metric that accounts for TVs in bars, offices, airports etc.? Maybe this would give a higher reading than straight BARB?

If they are, then they are not comparing like for like. Sounds more like Trump style over inflated figures being posted on here.

"Never seen 10pm get below 175k" - sorry to be anal and no I don't have anything better to do right now:

w/e Feb 12, 2017 - 10th most watched only got 160k - 10pm wasn't in the top 10
w/e Jan 24, 2016 - 10th most watched only got 140k - 10pm wasn't in the top 10
w/e Jan 17, 2016 - 10th most watched only got 149k - 10pm wasn't in the top 10
w/e Jan 10, 2016 - 10pm at 9th with 157k
w/e Dec 25, 2016 - 10pm at 8th & 9th with 195k & 194k
w/e Dec 18, 2016 - 10th most watched only got 129k - 10pm wasn't in top 10
w/e Dec 11, 2016 - 10th most watched only got 134k - 10pm wasn't in top 10
w/e Dec 4, 2016 - 10th most watched only got 134k - 10pm wasn't in top 10
w/e Nov 27, 2016 - 10th most watched only got 147k - 10pm wasn't in top 10
w/e Nov 20, 2016 - 10th most watched only got 146k - 10pm wasn't in top 10
w/e Nov 13, 2016 - 10pm at 2nd with 316k (America Decides)
w/e Nov 6, 2016 - 10th most watched only got 149k - 10pm wasn't in the top 10

Press Preview at 10:30pm tends to rate quite high but not fair to include that as we're comparing to BBC News & ITV News figures which are a 30 minute slot.

Sky News at Ten last night....96k

Before the "Toldya so" brigade emerge from the woodwork, let's take a step back.

There'll be an initial curiosity factor with ITV, so...

a) Some of what is normally the Sky audience will have been checking out ITV. I imagine the vast majority will be back in reasonably short order.

b) Many others checking out ITV last night won't be doing so again. This can only work in the BBC and Sky's favour. Admittedly, it'll be a lot easier for the BBC to take advantage of this, but given that - of the three - the one in the worst strategic position is ITV - I'd say there's reason to feel positive in the short-to-medium term.

This looks more likely to occur considering the tepid reception that the Nightly Show has received. Twitter has blasted it to bits.

I wouldn't worry about Twitter. It's the ratings that'll matter.

Well yes, at 96k the only way can be up.

Why does the glass box sound so echoey with Anna on her own? It actually sounded better during the paper review last night.

Also, would someone get a silent clicking mouse - Anna does love a good click before coming back into vision Laughing

Because the more people that are in the studio, the more sound that is absorbed. The glass box is probably an acoustic nightmare for the sound mixers at Sky News. Anything square with hard surfaces will sound terrible on air. I know they have had similar issues on Channel 4 News at ITN as their studio is made up of a lot of glass surfaces.

That's what happens when you have a studio that is designed to be an office with a studio as an afterthought.

I hope Anna Botting gets the job she is being interviewed for! Since the shot before the break advertising the press preview looks like a job interview set-up!

The Big Ben style titles are lovely, but they seem choppy - and the biggest gripe is the non-existent Sky News theme music. I hate to hark back to 2001-2005, or 2005- era, but then, there was a very clear signature theme tune, and that is something which is clearly lacking at the moment. It works fine for the general TOTH, which is a few seconds long, and graphically is fairly simple, however when you've got these wonderful sweeping shots of the clock face of Big Ben, the lack of a signature theme makes the titles look poor.

There seems to be still some of the old melody in there - the fanfare at the start - but very little now - diluted quite a bit in 2010 and even further in 2015.
