For anyone unsure of which studios will be used when
6am-6:30pm - New glass box studio
6:30pm - 9pm - Millbank - you might know it as the Westminster studio
9pm-6am - Current Sky News centre at Osterley

Echo seems problematic...

May I ask where this new studio is? Is it in one of their Osterley buildings?

The minimalist look is definitely not conducive to good sound - simply not enough furniture in the studio to soak up sound and prevent echo. Not sure how easy that'll be to fix.

And I'm sorry to say I think the angle they're using for Kay is the worst yet - looks like she's broadcasting from a hotel lobby.

Well well well.
Isnt this interesting. So they've cut the ribbon on the call center. And it looks just like pictures except the white light boxes on the columns. Been watching all morning since the launch and from me it gets a complete thumbs down. Its horrible. The tech is nice. Suspended track cameras and all that jazz. Aside from us presentation watchers.....most viewers could care less if the cameras are suspended from a track or if the news desk can bounce up and down like a Caddy in a Snoop video. Ehhh. But people do respond to visuals. Thats why tv channels around the world spend millions on graphics and sets and music. If visuals didnt matter to Sky they wouldnt have spent the money on this mistake.

The biggest problem is visually, SkyNews has lost its creativity completely. The graphics, music, sets, pacing. Everything that made SkyNews is gone. In UK news environment, it was always bit more energetic, lively, slightly pacey, just a bit of sparkle, not too much.... that made it stand out.... but still feel British and respected. This mess is simply a beige BBC clone. The white graphics, which in themselves arent bad (they are well done and nicely thought out) but lacks the Sky sparkle they had that made them unique. And the boring theme and lack of a proper TOTH.
This studio was a great idea in theory but the creativity seems stunted and constrained to tech. You can still have dignified news channel with out having all white graphics and beige set. Its almost too much banality.

But the thing that is disappointing is its such a sharp turn away from what they were KNOWN for. So much so, that the channel is hardly recognizable. When the new graphics launched a few years back I remember reading one of the head-honchos saying there were taking the showbiz out of the channel. And boy have they succeeded. Whilst I get they are innovating, there are better ways to retain your brand and heritage and your mark of difference. Now they could be any news channel. Just swap in the AlJazeera Logo in the corner. It feels the same. The only only screen branding is the little tiny DOG. Which is fine. But the set is devoid of any branding. The colour used to be their branding, thats is gone in this new effort. Does it still have to be blue and red, maybe not, but beige...ehhhh.

This is a big disappointment and such a sad direction for a unique channel and its heritage as the UK's first news channel. Even if they were going to go Scandi modern its not even a good version of that at all. I'll take a breaking news "swoosh" and a massive red breaking news wall over this disaster any day. So sad. As some have said. I expect they will be changing the visuals in a few months. This doesnt work.

The backdrop now at 5 is by far the best today and most appropriate for a news channel IMO.

Took long enough Razz

I wonder how long till a memo is circulated telling staff in the building to stop waving their arms in the air when they catch themselves on camera in the background.
