When I saw that tomorrow's front pages had been embargoed until midnight, I came on here to check if anyone was discussing possibly why... Then I see that mock at the top of the page!
Was going to ask if anyone had checked whether the news presenters were wearing black!
I was thinking some royal news or maybe the gay footballers that the papers said were close to coming out a while back. The Mirror ran that story and they give this embargo the full front page too
Nick Sutton, who tweets the front pages for the BBC, has said its something to do with a court order being lifted.
Doesn't take long to find out the story and the papers not affected give you an indicaton of the nature of the story.
I wonder though if the front pages were supplied blank to the news organisations or if Sky and the BBC, who clearly would be aware of the embargo in their own planning for tomorrow, had to edit them themselves. Presumably the press have had to take steps to ensure no first edition copies with that story are sold before midnight either.

Sky said (of The Times) that it was supplied to them with the embargo message on the graphic.

Neither of those but good guesses - Metro front page on Twitter might tell you what it is

We had to edit every paper carrying the story apart from the Mail and The Times. They sent us updated versions after midnight.

I saw someone suggest it could be a royal death - in fact,
the
royal death - on Twitter, and I loved the idea that if it was that, The Times would only give it half a page, the Mirror would keep the Micky Flanagan advert and the Star and Guardian wouldn't bother at all.
I know its necessary because of her age and importance to the country to practise these things. But it just feels kinda creepy. DEATHWATCH:ROYAL EDITION. Especially when these things leak out. I believe CNN has loads of these obituary reports (on air/online) prepped as well for well known global figures. I can only imagine how it makes you feel when people are practising your death. Oh well. Necessary but strange as it goes.

Not unique to CNN, every major news organisation rehearses for this and every news organisation will have reports, packages and tributes and whatever ready to go for when the moment comes (there is no "if the moment comes" - the only immortal organism on this planet is a jellyfish and last I checked the Queen was a female human being and most definitely not a jellyfish).
Not unique to royalty, I dare say there are tribute packages for many senior current and former top politicians and other noteworthy individuals ready to run however they die - naturally, homicide or if they get run over by a bus.
I suspect the Queen would be more concerned if they weren't practising how to cover her death - but she'll never know if a newsreader announced her actual passing dressed up as Krusty the Clown.
Yes, if not particularly nice it is at least convenient to have stuff prepared for deaths well in advance. With quite a few big names passing this year, it's not been hard to notice that within a few minutes most agencies reporting the breaking news have been able to go straight to a report on the death, which keeps the details vague but looks back at that person's life.
