Sky News's future is uncertain, and I think recent actions and decisions by Sky are more about making the operation and company as attractive to Disney for the purchase, rather than long term strategic planning and an intention to bolster and deepen Sky News

It goes back a lot further than that, it's been a few years since they started shedding staff and cutting things like their weather department, and the move of news centre and redevelopment of their campus has been on the cards for even longer than that.

Even if the Disney purchase was on the cards all that time ago, it would be too small to influence their purchase, Sky is after all just one small part of a much bigger company.

Sky News is just going through what other broadcasters have, it's a shame but ITV, ITN, BBC and others have all gone through cost cutting over the years. Sky had been traditionally immune to it

What are you on about? You're the one saying they've got their studios wrong because they won't be able to produce the whole election coverage from the studio floors. The fact they had a separate studio in 2015 clearly shows that wasn't something they had to take advantage of with the old studio.

I note you fail to acknowledge that in the 2015 election the old Sky News Studio had to be used and was used and has been for every election - sure they used another studio in addition to it for the 2015 election but they also used that studio as well.

What are you on about? I'm not criticising the way they have handled the last few elections.

Not directly no but there are a lot of people on here who are saying things about the old studio now than they were not at the time - example being people who say the old studio was too big, not needed, not necessary, overkill and all the other remarks we've seen in this thread - if people really thought that why have they not said it before? Why only say it now? These are very interesting points to make so I'm surprised that people who have hundreds and thousands more posts than me have never made them. Is it because they are not able to criticize Sky because they are employees and/or are fanboys who can never criticize them?

Quote:
What are you on about? I don't have to hate the old studio to find flaws in your very blinkered views of the new facilities. At the end of the day, a studio is a room with some equipment. Sky have plenty of them around. Sky News has access to more facilities than their two dedicated studios.

So answer me - if that is all they need why has Sky used a massive studio for most of the last 15 years when it was not needed - are you saying that they made a terrible decision in the past to have a massive studio that wasn't needed? I'm confused. On one hand you're saying that there is nothing wrong with the old large and more versatile studio but on the other hand you're saying that the new studio is much better because it's small and more basic. If you're arguing that one thing is better, it means you're also saying the other thing is worse.

Quote:
Does BBC News suffer from having small, fixed purpose studios? Like Sky, they have access to other facilities when they need bigger / less specialised spaces.

I prefer Sky News and I'd strongly suggest that Sky News doesn't try and be a clone of something else - I like the style that Sky has used over the last 10 years and I don't want to see that change - if I wanted to watch BBC News I'd watch BBC News.

It quite clearly isn't in anything other than your opinion.

Yet I've only looked back a few pages and I've found 3 posters who would like a soft and sofa area, perhaps you should go and have a look yourself and understand this is a discussion forum and not take it so personally the fact that someone on an internet forum might disagree with you about what you or your employer might think - if you cannot handle that other people might have different opinions than you then perhaps this forum is not for you an echo chamber might be a better place.

Which is why the BBC / ITV / C4 / C5 and so on never discuss these types of stories? Besides, just having a sofa doesn't get away from the fact that you're in a room with lots of people rushing around, cameras flying around, people waving their arms around to get you to hurry up and so on. They're not clinical spaces (even if that's what it appears down the lens) there's plenty going on that you don't see, and the old studio isn't a lovely warm lounge with a smell of freshly baked cookies and no distractions.

Well clearly someone in Sky thought that the sofa is worthwhile because they have spent the 10 years before the glass box was launched having a sofa in the studio - or are you saying that they made a stupid decision to buy and insert a sofa in the studio and the money would be better off spent elsewhere?

Your constant wingeing and jumping on anyone who dares disagree with you is getting very tedious and won't change a thing .

Personally I think that every side has a right to air their views, you have the right and I have the right to air my views - the difference is I will never try and shut down your views because I believe both sides have a right to be heard, the trouble on this forum is some people want to silence the people who have a different views to them and that shouldn't happen on a forum.

Anyway I'm not going to argue with you anymore since whilst I respect your right to air your view here you clearly don't respect the fact people of a different view to you have a right to air their views as well and it's hard to have a proper discussion when one side is trying to shut the other one down because they don't like what they are saying. It shows a distinct lack of respect.

I've warned you before.... stop telling me what you think my opinion is. I've said and think nothing of the sort

If you have a problem with me I suggest you post the mods - trying to back seat moderate someones views because they are different to yours is rather pathetic - I respect that you have your views and a right to make them and I would never try and belittle you for them no matter how much I disagree with them.

This is all getting ahead of its self. I'm sure SKY have been around long enough to know what they are doing. The best thing that could happen is that news production is streamlined and becomes as cost-effective as possible before the Disney takeover. Whatever the ownership status of the news division - it needs to be resolved quickly for all the staff.

Of course - the whole discussion by people who have left the company discussing that it was a good time to leave with the new studios on the card really is seen in a whole new light now and these people it seems were certainly ahead of the game and saw what is coming.

Anyway - I think that I've said enough on it all for one day - won't say anymore until I've seen it in action or at least more shots.

You misunderstand totally.

I'm not trying to moderate your views, I'm trying to stop you giving me my views! You're the one who is putting words into my mouth and asserting what I apparently think

And I haven't done that either.

I don't know who you are or where you've suddenly appeared from, but it appears you're accusing everyone else of something you're doing yourself. No one is disrespecting your views, disagreeing with you isn't disrespecting

Why don't we all just enjoy the last few hours in the good old Sky News studio? Wink

End of an era it is.

Something on which we'll all agree.

You just had to have another dig didn't you - how about we start focusing on what people are posting rather than having pot shots and personal digs at each other and trying to go around and commenting on what each of us can and can't post.

Personally I would disagree with a few posters on here but certainly I'm glad they are here and are arguing their side and sharing their views - it's a much better forum when you have people from all sides who are contributing and I'm glad that we can have such discussions here.

Lets leave the moderating to the moderators rather than trying to shut down peoples views.

Have the added sound dampening to get rid of the cheap sounding echo from that Glass Cube?

Good grief. My head is spinning after reading the last few pages and the damn thing hasn’t even been shown on screen yet.

If you're looking to see people at work during the news from tomorrow, the NC has exactly what you need!

I carried on watching Sky News throughout the first period of the Glass Box and will continue to do so if it comes from a glass box, a contained box or a shed in an allotment off the A4.

I can't say I have watched much of Sky News since the Election Leader's "Debates"

I've dipped into the website live stream for the odd interview, and to check out the Glass Cube when it launched.
