They are functional for individual news bulletins, not really for a 24 hour news channel, unless Sky News is going back to the original idea of having feature programming at the bottom of the hour.

And that's my point exactly - for the news bulletins the style is fine, but I honestly believe that for the lighter segments such as Paper Reviews and Kay's shift and even Sunrise, the old Sky News Center is better suited because of it's versatility.

Sky News is a serious news channel, without doubt, but it doesn't mean that 24 hours a day the content has to be desk bound and very formal panel interview style and I think the balance over the past 8 weeks has been far better than it was in the glass box in this regard.

Some people may want a channel to be serious 24/7 with no lighter segments but the moment Sky News turns into something like that is the moment I switch off - Kay's show is one of the best things about Sky News and any attempt to change the format to just rolling news would be a change for the worse.l

welcome to bbc-- I mean sky news studio n6

seriously, it looks like they took the bbc N6 set, changed the barco displays to a sky news image, replaced the desk with a copied glass box desk, relit one of the red lights red and they are done

even the desk tray looks the same!

But as I say the BBC have two 24 hour news channels out of functional studios as do other broadcasters. There's little space in the BBC's for anything other than people sitting at desks or at big screens in them.... you couldn't get a mariachi band in but then they've never needed to because they're a news channel!

Not in E or C but you could in B, and that studio has had performances before.

I'm going to make a prediction here. Within 2 years, the glass box will be consigned to the history pages of TV Ark (if it ever comes back!)

I have to admit that I would be incredibly surprised if by January 2020 the glass box was not still in use.

Though some people may not like it, I don't think there are any major fundamental issues with it and given the investment that Sky News has put into it, I think it is likely to be here to stay.

But, we will only know for sure in January 2020 I suppose!

I get that you love the BBC - but if I wanted to watch the BBC I'd do just that - in case you hadn't realised this was a topic about Sky News and I watch that channel because for the last 10 years it's been far more to my tastes as I find the BBC quite dull - Kay's show blows what is on the other side out of the water on a daily basis.

Just asking, but do you have the actual images used on those screens (barcos)? And if you do, please post it in a reply

No - sorry it's the only photo there is at the moment.

Yes, but for non news channel programmes, and of course Sky does have other studios too if they were so inclined

On another note I assume the weeks of rehearsals have been more for the new gallery rather than the new studio as it looks so basic, unless there’s more to it we have yet to see.

I'll hold judgement until I see it on screen but it's um, yeah.....

Yes I had realised, but that doesn't make my point any less valid.

No problem with that, takes all sorts.

Maybe I'm odd that I watch news channels, including Sky News, for the news. Not for who has the biggest flashiest studio , or the one best equipped for fluffy lightweight stories.... I watch them for the content of their bulletins. I've worked on news channels and news programmes with smaller studios than they have and it's not hampered our journalism at all

Is all very regularly news and the wide shots topped and bottomed by white don't look great just like the black doesn't for ITV regions. However on screen they get away with it.
