If you knew how CNN made money you would know that "working" with affiliates is not a money maker, you need content to SELL. But it doesnt matter, If Mickey has 100% of Sky they probably wont care what the government thinks, as long as it does not fall afoul of the OFCOM or other regulations. Murdoch was always interested in shaping governments and opinions, so he loved dangling them carrots... ehhh. The Mouse doenst care. Just line 'dem pockets with cash and all is good. Plus we wouldnt be talking about this if Murdoch & Co hadnt talk about closing it to make the deal. So you think Mickey would have any for SkyNews sentiment either? Highly unlikely. Lets be clear.... the Mouse isnt that nostalgic.

Like Rhianna says.....

The issue with Sky is that they are walking a very fine line as both a platform operator AND channel operators/programming producer/rights owner. MPs will need to be persuaded that they aren't reducing the public service elements which Sky currently voluntarily provide (Sky News, Sky Arts etc.) at the expense of increased profits, whilst they effectively have a very strong hold over the market in both platform and channel operations.

If they start annoying Parliament, the rules can be changed...

The Mouse doesn't need to be nostalgic, it just needs to be aware of the environment it is operating in, and I'm sure it is...

Short-to-mid term I don't see Disney rocking the boat. Longer term - will there need to be a 24 hour linear news channel at all?

Sky News can always be sold, closure is a last resort. Who will buy if such a thing occurs I wonder!

Surely buying Sky News in its current form would be tricky given its integration into the wider Sky operation at Osterley? Plus who would buy a loss-making operation?

I don't see that many buyers, and none of them are UK broadcasters. I don't see ITN or ITV or Channel 4 or Channel 5 buying Sky News. The only ones I truly see buying it are CNN or Al Jazeera.

Well how about a Sky News / ITN merger, incorporating all the Journalistic talent from both companies and sharing new technologies under a new "Sky World News Network" brand across all global territories via international cable affiliates and satellites. This would not just stop the BBC having a home monopoly but would give the big US networks some much needed international competition. ??

Well in any event SkyNews' long-term outlook looks quite murky and unsure. Rupert was quick to threaten to dump it and its unlikely to start turning a profit in the short term seeing as its never really made any money it the past. If it does survive in the interim, I imagine Disney will make some changes. Either severe cutbacks or a radically different looking channel. White graphics and a beige call centre backdrop probably wont cut it.....cant see that lasting very long frankly. They are gonna have to come up with something....

Mickey's gonna step off the DisneyChopper at SkyHQ in his green fur pimp coat like Rhianna...and he wont be humming "Whistle While you Work......instead its....

I have no idea what these ridiculous videos you keep linking to have to do with anything, but I really don’t think that “Mickey’s” priority will be to change the colour of the graphics and studio.

Would it be possible for the new owner to lease the studio space for a set period until the new owner has alternative space. If it was a current broadcaster, could they not just move Sky News over to their studio. I agree it would be hassle.

Many years ago there was talk of Virgin buying the ITV news channel. Or am I remembering wrong? for some reason it didn't happen. But I think, if there is someone out there that wants to start a news channel, what better way to start. CNN maybe, but Al Jazeera, I can't see why they would buy it. If anything, they will wait for Sky to close, and then try to move in and take some of the ex viewers. It would be for a motive other than profit!

IIRC, a decade ago Virgin was looking to partner with ITN to launch a news channel, which didn't happen. At some point in 2007, ITN once mentioned they would not rule out launching another news channel, but that did not come into fruition.

Could NextRadioTV buy Sky News in an effort to expand BFMTV's wildly successful news-and-debate concept to the UK? It's a long shot, but if they're considering international expansion...

In that case why not Global, to have it sit alongside LBC, maybe replace LBC News with Sky News Radio? Sky already provide news to them.

ITN could snap them up perhaps?

Disney may keep it going however. ABC News is currently part of Disney, why not build that up.

Well a few years back Disney Owned ABC NEWS operated a service similar to CBSN and that was shut down because it wasnt profitable. And currently their online streaming operation is basically just live streams from affiliates or ABC owned radio stations and thats only when there is breaking news. Typically its a just a reel of reports fed in from WNT or GMA or other sources. So would they want to start up again. Ehhh... remains to be seen.
