Is the glass box undergoing any changes to the look or just technical work?

That's ridiculous if it's going to be based on the same style of design of the glass box and go from a studio that is versatile and is adaptable to two studios which it sounds are cut from the same cloth.

You'd have thought the idea of replacing a versatile studio with two new studios is that one would tick some boxes and one studio would tick the rest.

The improvement in Kay's show and the Press Preview has been marked the last few weeks, the guests on Kay's show look more at ease on the Sofa without a huge desk between them and the guests on the press preview also seem to be more relaxed in a soft setting rather than looking like they are conducting a job interview.

While I'm not taking Freddie's 'insider' info as gospel, the NC doesn't have a soft area. Thanks to the round desk, they've been able to do soft segments without the need for a sofa/table area.

Well a round desk would make it easier, but soft segments are a disaster in the glass box, they actually look forced and completely out of place and far too formal and clinical.

I'm not saying the Glass box is terrible and it should go, but prior to it being taken out of use, it was used on a lot of output where it was completely unsuited to the style of content on the channel.

Sure, I see a strong case for it on the flagship bulletins such as 5pm, 6pm, 9pm etc which don't involve any guests in the studio, and even with the modifications and added colour I think you can get away with it from 11am-3pm as well without a problem. Kay's 3pm-5pm segment is totally unsuited however.

If we're going to use it post 10pm then it has to be on the basis of it being less bright than it is during the day. Honestly seeing Anna sitting in front of a bright white and Blue screen followed by watching the press preview in an extremely bright studio just before you're going to bed really doesn't help you get a nights sleep.

I'm not convinced that the glass box is suited to press previews either, but since it's going to have to come from the same studio as the news is coming from it will have to stay in the glass box as a consequence of no longer having a flexible studio.

Even lowering the desk in the glass box to coffee table height and some soft chairs would go some way to making the Press Preview look less 'formal'. I seem to recall an insider on here saying the desk broke after a couple of weeks use and wouldn't go down to coffee table height anymore. Maybe they can at least sort that out?

As some have said, changing the lighting for the PP would also help.

They started that with the glass box and we heard from the Sky apologists that we would get used to it and there was nothing wrong and much better and will not be adding colour to the studio as it was not needed we were too critical and they know best.

I find this level of passion quite funny. Terms like 'apologists' and 'they know best' – we aren't talking about politics, religion or economics but the set of a privately-owned TV news channel that can do whatever it feels like, and doesn't need to justify itself. The implication that some kind of new world order is being pushed through does make me smile.

(Yep, this is a television presentation forum etc., but there is also the concept of perspective. Opinions and disagreements are fine, but the kind of language being used in this post and others I have seen does seem somewhat odd.)

I think the glass box looks really good, and I disagree that it doesn’t work for Kay’s show - if anything, that’s the time it’s used the best.

My issue is the mismatch between set and graphics. The set is beige and minimalist, the graphics are shiny and gharish. I hope the new logo brings some changes in this respect.

It certainly works for the fantastic camera angles used at the TOTH.

My point more was that some people here were saying there was nothing wrong with the way the glass box looked and no need for colour as it was perfect. These people were not willing to tolerate any criticism of it in it's initial form and belittled anyone who complained about it in a very condescending way.

The fact was that after a while Sky decided to add more and more lighting to it, then they added the blue and then the red and then changed the screen graphics. I can only imagine that the people who were fans of the glass box must hate it now, seeing as you can't improve perfect and according to them it was earlier perfect.
