Tom McLeod is working on a new project for Sky News to launch in a few weeks and will present the 3pm to 6.30pm shift tomorrow in place of Gamal.

Note that in recent weeks Tom has replaced Gamal's marked in slot on a Friday and has recently been doing that slot a lot when before it was almost always Gamal filling in for Kay which could be an indicator of a future direction of travel if Kay is moving.

I daren't play it, (I'm in mixed company at present) but it looks like some attempt at an audition for The Snowman ?

The threat of Sky News being closed is an empty threat then if she's signed a 5 year deal.

Not really, if the company is shut down she'll be made redundant so it won't effect that.

Might help her get a bigger redundancy sum though.

Yea, quids in. If you were going to use the threat of closing Sky News, should have just given her a 6 month contract. That would have got more talking to see if their threat was real.

I doubt the people in charge of Sky News (who wouldn’t want the channel to close regardless of what the top bosses at Sky Plc want), would want to risk losing Kay by offering her just a six month contract.

She's a smart cookie though. Most contractors will do the same and it places the bosses in a difficult spot. Of course, I think we all know that the closure threat is an empty one. A lesson though for corporate giants - don't wave threats about or you'll find staffers/freelancers flexing their muscles too.

I personally am pleased Kay is staying ( big fan ) with Sky, however didn't Eamon Holmes announce the same Sky "5 year" Contract just 2 or 3 years ago and look what happened to him..!
So do these Sky "Contracts" actually mean anything..?

Contracts can be severed if both parties are mutually agreeable...

Well, yeah. When Eamon left, Sky News seemed to have been going through a restructuring/cost-cutting measures where a lot of their staff, certainly on-air, were leaving. Plus purely speculation, Sunrise now is different to how it was when Eamon hosted - longer hours for example. I don't think we should start speculating about an individual's contract though.

I'm glad we still have Kay on our screens for 5 years.
