Well at least this makeover can't possibly go as bad as the original bland unveiling, where they were saying how great it was for many weeks and deflecting all criticism about the blandness of it but then gradually came around to a sensible way of thinking by adding colour and lighting so it actually looked a little more like a studio and less like a conference room.
Or will the same scenario repeat where they will plough on regardless for weeks and months with something that looked good on paper and as a vanity project and saying how great it is to try and save face again whilst slowly tweaking it in the hope nobody will notice much.
Despite its faults, I’d still maintain that the glass box is a good broadcasting space. The view of the atrium is pretty unique, and it feels fresh. All of the other news programs have very dark/enclosed back drops, so the vast view of the atrium is a welcome sight in my view.
Whilst I think the glass box itself is fine, The view could definitely be improved. All it needs is a variety of different monitors, accent lighting and maybe a physical news ticker you can see from the box.
The Box is okay now (no better than okay mind), but on day one it was terrible and and when more than a presenter was at a desk everything looked like a bloody job interview.
Sarah-Jane Mee said on her instagram story that today was her Sunrise from the glass box as they're moving to the new studio. She's also on Holiday for two weeks, so 4th December launch?
From Saturday, they'll be moving out of the glass box and back into Studio A until the New Year. This is so that the glass box can be re-wired to the new gallery and given a makeover.
The glass box is getting a makeover? So this has nothing to do with the new studio in Sky Studios?
I really miss the atrium view and hope they return back to it soon. The side view used on Sunrise up until 3pm is just horrid. Kay Burley obviously puts a lot of her own input into her 3-6:30 slot, as she makes the most of the studio, but I don't think what we have currently is any better than what we've had before.
Hopefully sound dampening will be fitted to stop the echoey audio.
Am I right in thinking the feeds from the cube are routed to the older "Tesco" gallery, and with the new newsroom nearing completion, everything will transfer to the new facilities, in time for the new studio to come into use?
And regarding the updated logo, do you expect that to start being used when they leave the cube? - with a fuller re-launch in terms of graphics - along with the new newsroom, and return to the cube?

Since the atrium has been used for a variety of events maybe they could have a hanging LED screen that can be raised and lowered. When Al Jazeera America was on the air and broadcast from the Newseum they occasionally used it as a back drop from the studio.
Maybe in the walls of the canteen down below or above they could put a decent sized video wall. Large enough where you can make out some graphics and images but not to the point it’s overwhelming. I’m thinking of the likes of NBC’s Studio 3C which is used for Nightly. The video tiles used in that studio are used when MSNBC broadcasts from 3A. It provides a backdrop of sorts - likewise when Nightly is on they use the the video walls in 3A as a backdrop.
When the studios not “live” the video walls could be used to display information for Sky employees or show video feeds of their program output.
The whole Sky Center and atrium seems like a vanity project and with the price of LED tiles coming down it could be achievable.
Well clearly the Cube has been a disappointment. The view switched round to the just the newswall and now a "refurb" after less than a year or so. Total vanity project, seemingly without any foresight on how it will be seen by the viewer. Eeek. I wonder who's desk these decisions land at? Certainly many studios get tweaked here and there and slight changes. But wow. And lets be frank, if any of us, in our jobs made expensive decisions that didnt fulfill purpose, upper management would be looking at us crazy.
