I always assumed that she transferred to Sky when they took over TV-am news, like I think Lisa Aziz did

When was that, after the demise of the IBA (1991?) because I can't imagine they'd have sanctioned that ?

After it was announced TVS had lost their franchise (Oct 1991) they almost immediately started to supply
Sky with news reports from their patch, (nothing there that would have upset the IBA/ITC, though ITN probably weren't impressed !?)

Kay has said on Twitter she's now starting her 30th year, so she joined in 1988, three months before launch.

February 1992 IIRC when was TV-am jacked in their own news operation and handed the operation to Sky News to see out the rest of that calendar year.

Noticeable how in that clip of Kay on TV-AM she sounded different (posher) when out of vision to when in vision

It would be though, because Sky News didn’t go on air for another 15 months (5th February 1989), to make 30 years she must be counting the time she spent with the station before launch.

I'm surprised that she was there that early before launch, unless it was delayed.

I've known of TV start ups where people have been hired for a launch who then sit around for ages as there's nothing to do yet. Have done it myself a couple of times. But not for a year, at least not at the sort of level she would have been, that's the sort of timescale when only management posts are filled

The EPG still shows news at 9.30 rather than a back half-hour filler.

It does. Did you see the promo? If so what was it called? It was something about world news

It's 29 years, as Kay corrected in her Tweet. She joined three months before launch. I'm sure I remember her saying once she covered the Lockerbie crash in December 1988 for Sky News when they were running before launch, but not broadcasting.
