The new desk position is probably because of the work going on in Sky Central. That's why I'm pretty sure they're using the old studio at weekends till the end of august

Judging everything on that one screen cap but really think if they're updating the graphics on the big screen they need to make changes to the aston to match, even if it is just the shade of blue.

Interesting, is it work to improve the view from the glass box studio?

I don't know what it is for, but it is the reason that sky news are using angles such as having their backs to the screen or the new sunrise and sky news today (yes, I still call it that) is because of the works. It could be quite likely though that they are improving the view from the glass box

Desk has been back to its normal 9pm position straight on with Tom stood with the screen directly behind him from 3pm onwards

Thanks for the reply!

This setup looks quite good and better than the sofa and dark elevator background. Tom is the best of the new anchors imo, excellent. Claudia is also very good.

The close up shot just going into the break looked nice with the animating blue background, hopefully that will be kept if overnights come back to the box

The likelihood is that overnights will come back to the box. If the plans are still like this, the old studio will be demolished, the glass box will be used for most output apart from news at nine, ten, eleven, press preview and sunrise which I think will come from the new studio. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that this is what's happening

Not the biggest fan - I have to say.

This reminds me of that horrible disjointed change we had with the branding mid 2006, when the newswall got a completely random refresh, with the rest of the graphics and branding remaining largely unchanged...

Don't get me wrong, I love that the bosses have actually *allowed* the Sky Creative team to show off their work, and that there's more to 'simplistic branding' than a boring silver background and a few drop shadows, but this change, for me, is still a little boring.

It works for Sky News Sunrise. It's curvy, light and bright - reminds me of Sunrise on Channel 7 in Australia somehow. However, I don't think it works for the rest of the day - the blue is a little too light and fun, and as I mentioned with my point above, it doesn't fit with the rest of the brand. For Sunrise, a standalone programme, it's fine, but just not for the other programming.

On the studio, I really, really, really hope that desk position set up is not permanent. From 6am until 3pm we had the same angle, and the background behind Colin and Jayne actually got worse - it was a white wall with a red strip of lighting behind it. Terrible. I actually missed seeing those lovely shots of Sky Central - I've always liked the Sunrise desk position, so hope we see Sky Central again soon.

I'm excited to see what changes might come in with a refreshed logo (one like Sky Sports) - I don't hold out much hope, this coming from somebody who actually likes the glass box and the current branding, but just feels that it could be pushed that little further to actually try to recapture the spirit of Sky News.

I think the 'Sky News International' slide on the breakfiller looks the best. It has the full colour Sky News logo with a nice blue swirl background. It looks professional and finished.

The new one looks like it's been thrown together on powerpoint on Windows 95 Very Happy

The Sky News International Weather graphics are lovely as well, but they haven't changed the UK ones.
