I can only say this, but if you would like to see sky news look a little different, watch this space

This is not wrong, but don't go getting over-excited.

Probably a lessening of the gloss, and a Sky Sports style lowercase logo coming with the new studio move.

It is a graphics change but i can say no more

Reverting to only using two colours like the rest of sky?

It's not a huge update. There are some new graphics on the big screen, I don't know about the logo and as far as I know there are no changes to the lower thirds

That may or may not be the only thing.

Maybe they will remove the music totally? Seeing as that is the way Sky Sports has been going, which has gone backwards in presentation and production since the relaunch.

I hope they don't go the dumb down strictly two colour only route that SS has though, the whole idea of red and white and blue and white and nothing else really doesn't work.

The Sky Sports News main graphics for instance looked far better with red/white/blue last season than they do without the red this season where the lack of third colour makes nothing stand out.

There was a video in the Sky re-brand thread, with someone from Sky Creative confirming the other Sky logos would get the Sky Sports treatment later this year. It would be a little ridiculous if Sky News were to make any on-screen changes before introducing a new logo at a later date. And it would be ridiculous for all the logos to change, except for Sky News.

With the new studio coming on-air later this year, seems an ideal time to bring it all together.

I'm hoping they will change their theme tune and opening sequence.

Direction of travel appears to be as basic graphics and little sound as possible removing all 3d elements and making graphics totally flat which IMO makes them look worse. I would expect the TOTH is more likely to be dumbed down further than spruced up,.

Soccer Saturday used to be a full colour red/white/blue colourset animation with music, now it's literally a blue and white logo against a plain white background with no sound, someone next to be thought it was a fault, but maybe that way they don't need to pay for royalties of the music..

Most of the graphics are blue and white as well now with the previous red elements turned to blue, this has caused for headings to be in same colours as rows below and scores to be in the same colour as background etc which just looks plain odd.

You've made all these points already. Repeating them constantly doesn't make your opinion count more than anybody else's. I prefer the direction they've been going in.

Design in general is moving towards clean and simple graphic treatments. But that doesn't mean you have to be boring.

Sky News seems to have opted towards becoming background viewing, with a focus on providing clips and content beyond the TV channel, onto social media.

So it is the channel editor that is responsible, not a move away from OTT 3D whizz bang designs.

I actually don't mind simple and clean treatments, my issue more is that recent trend is to make things so simple that they take longer to read because the most important stuff doesn't stand out enough because everything is samey-same as other information on the screen.

Sky Sports Football is a good example, when a sub happens now there used to be a green arrow to indicate player coming on and red for a playing coming off. Now they are both white, there's many changes like that, many much bigger, but the end result is that it takes more effort to find key info which you could see at a glance before as it was made to stand out.

The initial cricket scorecard graphics were a good example, the header rows were the same colour as the standard rows of info which made it very difficult to follow

You had:
Team
Batsman
Team
Batsman
Team
Batsman
Team Batsman

But all of the rows had the same font weight, same background colour and same text colour so it was very hard to read. After a day they (thankfully) started to use a different colour for header rows, but it looked a massive mess without them.

If a graphic takes a longer amount of time to read the key info than the graphic it replaces then the new graphic has failed in my book, graphics on Sky Sports right now are generally less readable than the old ones, despite the fact the font size has been massively increased, there is just almost no contrast between the important info and less important info shown on screen.
