From the latest Ofcom news consumption report published last month (figures for 2016).

Q. Thinking specifically about television, which of the following do you use for news nowadays?

Sky News 21%.

Back of fag packet calculations would give around 10m just in the UK.

No. BARB 2017 Q1 data would give you 5m weekly reach. Coupled with Sky saying the U.K. is roughly 50% of their worldwide weekly reach and you'd get 10m. On a fag packet.

Ofcom use both BARB and market research in their reports, they usually give widely different results. BARB gave the recent Joshua PPV boxing a peak audience of 1.3m but the promoter said it broke the previous 1.5m sales record. All buyers watching alone and many not bothering?

So, we're now rapidly approaching mid-July and I have yet to see any updates on the new Sky News newsroom and overnight studio. Any updates from insiders? I understand the Brexit/Election shambles pushed things back a little, but I'm surprised we haven't heard any news recently.

New studio - November. That's when they'll be demolishing the current one

It was a converted building, I think it was once a Tesco, or owned by Tesco. So the building was probably much older.

Part of a wider regeneration plan for the campus.

And literally if they put another light on the ceiling it would fall in

The building was never part of the Tesco site. However, it's right next to its boundary. The decision back then was part of a different strategy focused on individual buildings. The set-up in Sky back in the day was more like a movie-lot set-up you'd see in the States. It was always very temporary and unsustainable. (Parking was an absolute nightmare). The new campus strategy is far more professional and reduces some of the space required. I think the long-term plan is to sell off some of the land where Sky News and the former Sky HQ building are at the moment.

Sky News sent out a test push alert. No big deal but I loved how they linked to this article entitled Trump and Putin had 'secret' second chat at G20 . Now my mind is wondering if this was a way to get the message out about President Trump even more or just a mistake. I mention this because the Murdoch owned Wall Street Journal editorial board published a scathing review against Trump. And I'm reaching here could be a sign showing that the 21CF / Sky merger won't result in in a duplicate of Fox.

Since I'm to lazy to upload again here's a tweet I sent showing the test message and article:

Edit : Full disclosure I wrote this right after I got an alert which was a few minutes after waking up. (5:50 AM).

Nope. I've worked closely with that team (we literally shared desks for two-and-a-half years) and it's gotta link to something.. The people who - deliberately or otherwise - put out this push will have been techies, not journalists. If somebody did that as a "joke" with the same thought you had in your head, they'd be toast.

It occurs to me that whether it's anti-Murdoch conspiracy theories with zero basis of evidence (and the guardianship of Ofcom to ensure no such thing could ever happen), Dr. Who misogyny, or Daily Mail-infused anti-BBC bile over presenter's pay, the tinfoil-hattery on-display around here is making it a lot less-pleasant of a place to visit, and much more like the murky swamp that is the DS forums.

To the mods' credit, it looks like they've managed to rein in the worst offenders, but it's a slippery slope.

The natural response, and one I understand, is: "You're not a mod, and if you don't like it, sling your hook."

All I'm saying - and I've said this before in other threads unrelated to Sky - is that the standard-of-discourse we enjoy here is higher than that, and I very much hope it will be once more.

Nope. Next...

Just making some speculation. Surely there would be a fresher article to send an alert about.
