I love how all the news channels sends everyone to New York. DC would have been my choice. But thats just my opinion. Will be interesting to see the SkyNews coverage and watching Kay Burley "travelling around New York City speaking to voters, campaigners and officials". "There will also be teams live in all the swing states that matter;" Great. Gonna be good.

They say they're being sent to New York because it is Clinton and Trump's home state. NY coverage is Monday 7th to Wednesday 9th.
Coverage moves to DC on Thursday 10th

Hillary Clinton didn't live in New York for a even day until after she won her Senate seat. I also question whether the diversity of voices in the US is represented well in New York City alone, i.e. the five blocks around Times Square where 95% of MoS interviews will probably take place.

It's the same here with MP's, they are dropped in from other locations. My local Labour MP never grew up here or lived here for much time before being elected, yet they claim to understand local issues, what a load of rubbish.

Fantastic camera-work right now on Sky News. Zac Goldsmith press conference, Goldsmith's face out of focus,
but items on the wall behind him perfectly sharp.

Is this some new artistic mode of filming, or just bog standard muppetry ?

Order Order has passed judgement.

Quote:
The Guy Newsroom has Sky News playing all day. The coverage is pacy and usually quicker than the BBC. They have a new studio set which for obvious reasons they are calling “the Glass Box“. It is early days yet and we may get used to it. However….

It looks to Guido like the presenters are at the back of the main exit of a shopping mall. Behind them is a distracting procession of suits wandering around. Male presenters in grey suits look like they are camouflaged against the steel and glass background, fortunately the female presenters are wearing vivid block colours to make them stand out. The new set just looks cold and austere to the viewer. They are going to have to tint that glass…

I haven't watched enough of the glass box to be sure, but don't you think it sounds a bit... echoey?

I think it all looks alright. I'm not going to not watch because of it. Maybe all it needs is for some distant walls in the background to be painted blue or something - nothing major, just to add a small amount of colour.

I do think it's shown how dated the old studio looked however.

I didn't think it was dated at all but they turned the whole presentation boring, I still haven't seen Sky in the new studio though, but it's not the worst looking studio I've seen within an office environment, that prize belongs to the studio used on Premier League News(see Karthi Gs twitter feed for examples)

I suppose echoey is the right word. Hard to describe but I guess it is a bit like being in a decent sized room with no furniture! No atmosphere?

Managed to catch a bit today on TV and it's not awful, just very minimalist. It felt like with every refresh Sky Sports News would whack up the contrast and Sky News have gone done the opposite! Quite refreshing after years of bold colour but there maybe just needs to be some colour in the background. The shots with a white background and giant Sky News logo in front of the presenter don't look great.

And the giant heads on screen is just classic Dead Ringers, it would be more in proportion with the presenter if the other person was in a smaller window.

As soon as I watched the Glass Box yesterday, I thought there was something odd about the sound.

There isn't an echo, as such, but the sound seemed quite 'harsh'. For some reason it doesn't sound as natural as you would normally get from a studio - but this is no ordinary studio.

The look is certainly different, but I do wonder whether it is just a little too radical, even for Sky News. There just doesn't seem to be anything in the surroundings that would associate the studio with a news programme.
