France 2's Tele Matin occasionally has a bit of banter between the soon to be retiring William Leymerge and the director in the gallery.
The director responds by talking back over the studio foldback speakers.

She really didn't look happy about that. Where was her humour?

Are there ever two ways between the gallery and presenter on air? They occasionally happen over here during morning cable shows (I know Morning Joe does it regularly) when the presenter "makes" who ever is talking in their IFB say it on air. I've noticed a few occasions where during Sunrise on the weekends they make comments of producers ridiculing them (this weekend was Stephen Dixon's shoes).

I've never known two-ways between the gallery and presenters to ever happen on air, on any news channel. They mention the production team occasionally, but I don't recall ever seeing or hearing from them. Kay Burley often mentions her director and producer on air too.

Obviously correct me if I'm wrong.

Nope.

Unheard of in the UK News industry. Loudspeaker talkback - if present - is usually inhibited by transmission lights (to avoid it being heard on-air) and a producer's or director's mic being present on the sound desk is equally unheard of.

What does happen, occasionally, is a one-sided conversation with the gallery - where you only hear the presenter...

Was this supposed to be funny? Looked quite rude to me. He could have just left her there, it happens quite often in double headed bulletins that one presenter is looking down or just not noticing the camera. Reminds me of this nasty CNN episode....

The CNN example was straight-up rude - he could've scribbled something on a pad and passed it to her while out-of-vision, but it doesn't bear comparisons at all to Colin and Jayne, who have a very jovial relationship on and off-screen.

Yeah, the John Roberts and Kiran Chetry pairing was always a little odd, and it didn't last too much longer after that clip happened.

Still though, as far as anchors getting mad at co-anchors for not paying attention goes, nothing tops this one:

Apologies for deviating so far from the subject at hand, but this Sue Simmons classic is worth sharing.

So the desk used for the election has not been changed again?
