All the more reason why it's still such a puzzling setup. The news channel ends up with a backdrop not of a newsroom and not of a space that is all too broadcast-friendly. It's not bad — I think it actually looks alright, especially with the lightboxes added around recently and with less use of what is supposed to be the big money shot of the atrium. But it's so very clearly a space designed by architects and high level executives, not any news journalists/executives or broadcast designers. At least that's my guess.
Then again, the opposite — building an entire building like a studio and making people work out of a windowless newsroom, as is what the current/old building is — isn't any better either.
With all that said, I'm interested to see what the forthcoming studio will look like.
People seem to have got it into their heads - probably thanks to the BBC's setup - that the area under the glass box was either designed to be or could yet be a working newsroom. It simply isn't, and given the investment that's being made over at Sky Studios, won't be for the remotely-foreseeable future.
