I do indeed understand this all, but Sky News Sunrise recently (10th Dec 2012) got a new set so let's see.

Umm... read L@5's post about Eamonn's tweet and read between the lines of my posts and you'll discover there's no "Let's see" about it. Cool

There was a time when people who worked at Sky and the BBC were treated politely and at times with some deference here on the forum. Especially when they let us into some of the behind the scenes stuff going on.

Always treat Skygeek with respect as do with all forumers. Just sometimes respectfully disagree but always value his excellent input and enjoy our discussions!

It appears Sky News presenters aren't overly happy by the change:

Interesting turn of events!
I actually prefer Sunrise being presented from the desk. Was never a fan of the shoebox. Thought it was odd with one presenter behind a small desk & the others on a sofa.

Sunrise back in the shoebox for a while, for a discussion with disabled guests.

So just to clarify - is the shoebox not fully functional after the water damage, or has there been an editorial decision that when they moved to the main desk it actually worked better so they're going to stay there?

Though I can't claim to speak for upper management, my understanding is it's the latter.

It does have more of a formal look from the main desk, something which Sunrise should capitalise on especially since GMB has returned to the GMTV format.

Although I think they should do the final 8.49-56 segment from the Shoebox being the light segment of the show.

I think the shoebox set has always felt a bit small. Whilst the main set does feel a bit *too* formal, I reckon it'd look good if they relit it slightly. Throw some orange in there somewhere maybe. The blue and red feels a bit cold.

I think the shoebox is the best looking place in the SkyNewsCentre when it comes to presentation. When they now concentrate on the main desk again then they should finally get a new one IMO.

Some changes this morning, Sunrise continues to be from the desk but Gillian is next to Stephen this time and they are taking turns to read the headlines.

I thought Sunrise would've finished too by now, but its now 10:30 and they both are still on air from the main desk.

Incorrect - they are guest-presenting the Brazier/Secker slot so it's a different format and par-for-the-course.
