This all sounds very promising and definitely a step in the right direction. However, I'd quite like to see them go further with the double headed presentation. It may seem a bit odd having double headed presenting for part of the day and then single headed for the rest. A return to the Kay and Mark days could work quite well. I also wonder where this leaves the likes of Martin Stanford, Lorna Dunkley and Samantha Simmonds? (who all deserve a prominent part of the schedule. It's also going to be interesting how the double headed presenting is going to work in the current studio? In the past it's looked a bit awkward having 2 presenters at the current desk. Just a bit of a guess here, but could this possibly be a trial of a new format, leading to a wider studio revamp prior to the election?

Now that double headed pres is part of the schedule rather than a last minute/emergency thing, there will probably be modifications to fit two people...that or we could see a return of the podium area beside the videowall.

I don't think so, it's just for 3 hours of the day double-headed. I reckon they will be just sitting at that desk (which has a broken lighting since 2011 !)

Broken, or turned off? Wink Rolling Eyes

Well if it was just turned off I wouldn't get the point of doing it as the front left of the desk is still glowing regularly. Wink

Fantastic to see that the editorial elements of this revamp are central to the discussion. Rolling Eyes

With all due respect (and with no wish to offend an insider who is very generous to the forum), this is (supposedly) a TV Presentation forum, so discussing the music is, strictly speaking, more on topic than discussing the channel's editorial policy. And certainly preferable to the usual rota based posts!

It may be a TV pres forum, but you'd think people would care more about the changes associated with the schedule, rather than a new theme tune, wouldn't you? Sky News uses theme music the least (probably apart from C4N), so if people can cope with hearing the same thing once an hour on a news channel for a few years then don't choose a rolling one... Rolling Eyes

No, not at all. It has long been my experience, that people do not care that much about the content of a news bulletin, but will get wound up if the music is changed to something far worse (in their opinion), or their favourite presenter disappears. Sometimes they will comment if they feel a particular story that they're not interested in, gets a lot of coverage, but mostly, it's presentational elements that provoke the most response.

Caps?

Most likely that the lighting is in different sections and they are only lighting a certain section.

This is the desk as it appeared in 2009.

The left side of that desk has 4 lighted sticks and on the right there are 3 of them. Now since 2011 those 3 sticks on the right haven't been glowing at all.

Hmmm, looks like someone hasn't noticed that it was uneven, or they've just got lazy and leave it at the settings from the day before...

We mustn't forget that skyviewer is phil94, so therefore watches approximately 26 hours of Sky News content a day - nearly anything would become repetitive at that dose.

Oh thank you for telling me what I am doing all the day , didn't know that ,reminds me a bit of the argument between Adam Boulton and Alastair Campbell back in 2010 shortly after the General Election. Just to remind you, from 2005-2010 Skynews used 3 different music beds for Headlines Top Stories and coming up, but nowadays there is only ONE - the main theme used for all 3. If this isn't a change which makes something more repetitive then I can't help!

Sky News is a rolling news channel, it isn't like Breakfast or GMB, where you tune in for a feature or a headlines update. It isn't like CNN where every single hour (or half hour) has a different focus. Sky News is for people to drop in, get the headlines, get back to normal TV and switch back in 10 minutes, or an hour or two. If you want varied presentation then go watch a news channel that has appointment-to-view programming.

Rant. Over.

EDIT: You edited your post while I was creating mine, but you also edited your quick enough so you didn't get the edited tag.

Headlines and Top Stories are now very much the same thing in news, "Top Stories" seems to be the more tabloid way to say "Headlines".
Coming up is basically the same as above, but more in depth:

For example, the current top story...

Headlines: "BREAKING NEWS - Rotherham Abuse: Police Chief Refuses To Quit"

Coming Up: "Coming Up, we'll have more on the latest Breaking News, which is that Shaun Wright will not stand down over his role in failings at Rotherham council that resulted in 1,400 children being abused. Also coming up..."

No difference.l

A few video clips and images of rehearsals for sky news tonight on the twitter page (@skynewstonight) . All looking promising so far. In fact, I'd go as far as saying the Westminster studio is looking in far better condition than sky news centre. Looking at the image that has been posted, it looks similar to a screen that was playing in the gallery background during the 7pm hour today. From what I could make out, it appeared as though new graphics were being used. (However it was seen through a blurry background screen, so I could be entirely wrong).

This was on the sky news website this evening, looks like Sky News Today is back. (apologies if this has already been posted)

Quote:
New 0900-1200 show:

Sky News Today will offer three hours of fast-paced live news and analysis - where Sky News attacks and sets the day's news agenda, identifying and leading on the stories which our competitors will follow.

We'll use our double-headed presentation to make sense of the emerging stories, to clearly explain to our viewers what they mean to them, and why they should care; accessible, smart and energetic will be our watchwords.

Colin Brazier and Jayne Secker will take a provocative approach, asking the questions other broadcasters won't ask.

The new show will exploit Sky News' cutting edge technology (including its pioneering 'Big Screen'), showcase our excellent digital content, and use our specialist correspondents' depth and expertise to really analyse the big stories and get under their skin.

The 1030 debate will tackle the key issues of the day - with lively discussion, news-making interviews, and engaging our audience on social media by using innovative new techniques to get people involved.

Alan Grady, Executive Producer

New 1200-1400 show:

A new two-hour news programme will launch at 1200, presented by Dermot Murnaghan from Monday to Wednesday and Anna Jones from Thursday to Saturday.

It will provide the complete picture of the day's developing news stories - getting behind the headlines with in-depth analysis from our team of correspondents and, of course, the latest breaking news.

The show will feature interviews with major figures in the day's news stories, plus the latest sports headlines at 25 past the hour.

At 12.45pm, Sky News Business Presenter Ian King will give his take on the main stories that are emerging from the business world, with the latest from the City from Dharshini David at 1.45pm.

The programme will also feature the best of Sky News digital content and interaction with the Sky News audience across our platforms via social media.

Jamie Wood, Executive Producer
