I've been really impressed with Sky's coverage recently. I think they have started to outdo the BBC news channel again. As somebody said to me recently 'nobody does big news stories like Sky News.' The coverage of the missing plane in Asia, the Oscar Pistorius trial, the Ukraine crisis and the explosion in New York today has been exceptional. It has been an extremely busy news period and with quality on the ground reporting along with the newswall has provided a comprehensive understanding for all the mentioned news stories. Having watched Sky News closely in the last couple of week's it really is starting to remind me of the Sky News of old that was much praised.

I would agree except I think they go over the top with the Oscar Pistorious trial
Why did JT come back from South Africa to be in the studio? A little weird, it seems Martin Brunt is now anchoring coverage.
He spent the first week of the trial there and returned back to London for the second week. Presumably because the trail has now dropped down the agenda with Malaysia and Ukraine taking the top line-up I guess they wanted him back in London to anchor those events.
Though, it would be weird if he didn't return for the verdict.
Also, with the court adjourning at around 1pm local time every day I saw somewhere at that speed the trail may take up to 3 months to complete. That was last week I saw that, I believe they have sat for longer this week but still are way behind the three week anticipated schedule. It probably wasn't feasible to keep him out there for such a long period.
Great coverage from sky news today with the missing plane in Malaysia and the crisis in Ukraine. And i'm not one to watch sky news, but much better, clearer coverage than the BBC imo.

Indeed, I'd have thought Alex Crawford could more than adequately cover proceedings on her own.
For what it's worth, I agree with everyone's compliments about the impressive coverage with recent stories. Just goes to show past concerns about lack of updated graphics and features are unfounded - it's the quality of reporting and style of journalism that matters.
Oh, and another thing I've noticed (trivial as it sounds): the Qatar Airways promos before weather bulletins have gone. Sponsorship contract over perhaps? Sky and QA must have been going for years now, with pretty much the same clips shown either side of the weather updates.

I would say the withdrawal of Qatar Airways promos is to do with the missing plane coverage. Anytime there is an air disaster such as the Air France plane crash or the recent helicopter crash in Scotland they take down the Qatar Airways promos which is a nice touch I think. Alex Rossi is also in Kuala Lumpur. Andrew Wilson still in the Ukraine covering the referendum in Crimea. Just a word about Mark Stone. I have said it before on this forum but I really think he is growing into one of the best foreign correspondents I have seen. He just recently became a father and while he is away from his wife and child which must be tough he has been doing a superb job covering the events over the past week.
