I managed to capture this in the early hours of Sunday Morning:

Do you think someone at Sky News has a sense of humour, or is it an automated ad break kicking in? There wasn't a Sky News ident when it returned from the break, the news reader appeared and just carried on with the next report.

David Blevvins has resurfaced as Sky's Ireland correspondent, I haven't seen him for a few years.

Interesting blog by Robert Peston on what a News Corp takeover of BSkyB might mean for the news industry,

This is an interesting article on him leaving the channel in 2007 for three year studies

So, with Sky Sports News leaving Freeview, wonder how that will feed into the changing relationship between Sky News/Sky Sports News which has already been mentioned. I’d expect more Sky Sports News faces to pop up on Sky News for a start.

John Ryley was awarded the 'Individual Achievement Award' at the Broadcast Digital Awards last night for his role in the TV debates.

However Alastair Stewart disputes the suggestion that Ryley and Sky were the main reason TV debates came about,

Incidentally despite the SSN move off Freeview I gather there are no plans to make Sky News a pay channel.

Sky News is likely to remain free-to-air now I would think. Apart from the fact that there isn't anything obvious to gain from switching to pay, Sky don't really have anything they could replace it with on Freeview. The only danger to Sky News on Freeview is if plans for a Picnic pay TV service on digital-terrestrial are revived, but since Sky now have the Virgin 1 stream in addition to the slots for Sky3 and Sky3+1, they might be able to launch such a service without removing Sky News. Indeed, it is quite possible that they would want to keep Sky News where it is to retain a free-to-air presence and promote the new service.

From a personal point of view, I can't say I'd be too fussed if they do decide to make it a pay channel now. Still gutted about Chris Roberts' sacking. I echo the sentiments of Lorraine over on News on News:

Quote:
"I have wondered lately why I havent seen Chris Roberts on our screens and only today I read that he was sacked.

Good god....they have readers there who are mono toned and annoying and take away the one reader who was friendly, cheery and didnt look like he had been forced to work at gunpoint."

Sky will be using a "Budget vid-printer" for the Emergency Budget next week, it seems.

Looks like they are trying people out on Saturday Live.

Lauren Taylor doing NSW this afternoon. If this her first daytime appearance doing news as opposed to business? And Lisa Knights made what I think was her Sunrise debut this morning covering from Gillian

Talking off Gillian, she did both Live Desk's yesterday. While she has done the Live Desk before, I don't think she has ever done both on the same day (when she has done it in the past it has been added onto to her headline reading duties)
