I think Sky just needs to clean up their schedule just a little more, then its nearly there. I think SkyCom News and Jeff Randall Live needs to both go in the half hour slots and leave the TOTHs to news bulletins.

Sky News Today and Afternoon Live are never going to get as good ratings though as they broadcast during times where the majority of people across the UK are at work. I think both are fine as they are.

Important to recognise that the programme slots are only 30 minutes now compared to an hour this time last year which artificially increases the ratings but having said that the share of 0.7% for the week ending May 30th and the week ending May 23rd is still very impressive and much higher than the usual share. I would expect a similarly high share for the next set of BARB officials which will take into account viewing for the week of the Cumbria shootings.

Must say despite what some people say I firmly believe Sky News is on the up, the only concern would be what might happen to Sky News if Picinic goes ahead. With Sky now owning Virgin 1's Freeview slot there is a slim possibility that they might not need to remove Sky News from Freeview but it is still a concern.

As far as programmes are concerned for the w/e May 30th 'Sunrise' continued to dominate the Sky News top 10

Though the week before the top 10 was more varied, with Sunrise just in 3 times. the 5pm/6pm/10pm/11pm hours generally seem to do well

Peter Andre: The Next Chapter is currently on ITV2 (and ITV2+1 in a few minutes). This features Peter Andre on Sky News if anyone is interested. There isn't much to see but I thought some people might be interested, its just over half way through the programme. I am sure it will be repeated several times on ITV2 this week.

Why are Ofcom interested in the timing of the weather?

There aren't, but they are interested in the sponsorship stings surrounding it. Ofcom seem to be taking a somewhat stricter interpretation of their rules not allowing sponsorship for news programmes, so the weather has to be a clearly separate sequence, rather than between two news items.

Ofcom seem to be cracking down on sponsorship issues across the board on both radio and TV at the moment - it isn't a specific Sky crack down.

They're not bothered about the hayfever and entertainment news sponsors then, as they appear mid programme?

Or ITV Regional bulletins, where the weather forecaster sits on the sofa talking to the presenters about the weather before a brief "Weather" title, sponsor ad and forecast, followed by sponsor and title and back to presenters.

I still think that if this from Ofcom intervention, it's the three internal breaks per hour rule.

The placing of the weather now, takes the fourth break out of the programme and puts it in between the two hour broadcasts.

I managed to capture a Sky News report in the early hours of Sunday morning about the problems ITV 1 HD had with the England vs USA match.

I tried uploading it to YouTube, but because it had a clip of the actual match FIFA has blocked it on copyright grounds.

Someone at Sky News has got a sense of humour or an automated ad break kicked in during the report. There wasn't a Sky News ident when it returned from the break, the news reader appeared and just carried on with the next report.
