Sky News: Presentation Discussion

Sky News HD just got some good news. Apple's new iPhone 4 does video editing, and 720p, so all those crowd-sourced videos just got better for HD.

The current iPhone does video editing. Basic trimming and so on, but it edits.

Sky News always had the weather at the end of the bulettins historically - it wasn't till 2005 that they started doing it right before the TOTH.

One bugbear of mine about the Sky News TOTH is that there isn't a separate "title sequence" any more (and hasn't been since 2005) - after the headlines it's a straight cut to the studio - this worked a lot better with the old headline bed as it had a distinct melody to it but works a lot less since the rebrand as the new headline bed doesn't really have a melody.

Having said that, a lot of the previous Sky News title sequences were just the ident again with different music and a voiceover, which was slightly repetitive, although Sky News did not use a channel ident before news bulettins until 1993.

Is he new or just not on very often, There was no voiceover for him

First shift as far as I know. The only real search results for the name found someone who used to present on Top Gear, Fifth Gear and Police Camera Action. No idea if it's the same guy.

Problems with Sky News on Freeview this morning in the Yorkshire region, Anna Jones was in the middle of an interview when the screen went black, It has been like this now for around 5 minutes at least, I thought it was my tv but I can receive all the other channels

Latest BARB officials suggest Sky News (along with the BBC NC) continues to enjoy a post-election bounce in the ratings, obviously aided somewhat by some big news stories and perhaps the HD launch but nonetheless they are encouraging figures as far as Sky are concerned.

To put it in context in recent years Sky News' usual weekly share has been around the 0.5 mark.

As far as programmes are concerned for the w/e May 30th 'Sunrise' continued to dominate the Sky News top 10

Is anyone else having problems with Sky News on freeview today in the Yorkshire region?, For the second time today it has gone to a black screen for over 5 minutes.

BBC News figures have risen, but nowhere near as dramatically.

Great news. Its amazing programmes like Afternoon Live hardly ever in the top ten, and they don't seem to try to improve the show anyway.

I think Sky just needs to clean up their schedule just a little more, then its nearly there. I think SkyCom News and Jeff Randall Live needs to both go in the half hour slots and leave the TOTHs to news bulletins.
