I had a listen to BBC Cumbria and they were playing music! It is no good the police telling people not to pick up hitchhikers on television when the local radio is playing music. I am sure they have mentioned this news story but why play music at a time like this?

What else are they meant to do? They don't have the resources or staff to roll continuously with news, unless they sit there and endlessly repeat themselves even when there's no new news. They are however giving clear concise information every couple of minutes between records; the tone of which is appropriate for the circumstances.

Usually though they are more than a match for the BBC.

Tom Parmenter has been en route for a couple of hours. It takes about 3 hours from Manchester to Whitehaven, I believe.

They will probably go to PMQs at 15:00 anyway, its too late to rush now. A reporter will get there when they get there. Maybe they will be first on the scene at the woods where the gunman's body has been found

It's not the easiest place to get around, Whitehaven is a big town on the coast with fairly good connections, the villages like Boot and Eskdale however are very remote and tricky to get to - right up in the hills. There's a minature railway up to there which is how most tourists get up there: http://www.multimap.com/s/PV0foU7p
I'd have thought they'd base themselves, at least initially in Whitehaven, the first and easiest place to get to.

3 hours from Manchester sounds about right though, it's either on a windy road along the coast or M6 and across the lakes

Why are PMQs at 1500?

Just a once off for this week, something to do with MP's arriving later. Live camera in Whitehaven now.

Edit: Looks like Sky aren't going to carry the rest of PMQ's.

Merely hamstrung by the lack of any nearby satellite trucks - whereas the BBC could easily bring one over from Newcastle.

When the floods were happening a few months ago there was a lot of praise for Sky News' coverage, they were in the right place at the right time. It's very different this time though, Sky are struggling

There was a flood warning though wasn't there, giving advanced notice. Unlike in this case.

Probably the right decision to stick with the Cumbria story over PMQ's, might allow Sky's coverage to catch up with the BBC when most people tuning in will probably want more on the big breaking story rather than PMQ's.

The BBC also left PMQ's a couple of minutes ago.
