An aside - during a report on the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico this morning, what appeared to be an incorrect film spooled across the inset in the news wall. What I'm interested in is the line 'No Access Sky' and its possible meaning. Would this be a film that Sky News shouldn't use, or just that at the time Sky wasn't able to be there to report the event?

The former. It'll have been a pool feed from another UK news organisation (in this case ITN), which will have been offered to many broadcasters, except Sky.

This is generally the case with pan-European pools offered via the EBU News Exchange, for example - BBC, ITN, AP or Reuters will offer material for other subscribers to use, which will probably mean 'everyone but our competitors in the UK'.
With this clip, the pool arrangements have probably long expired, and they'll have bought it from the ITN archive.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but has Sky News got a random fault with the sound on some reports? There's some nasty distortion on reports now and again, like it's clipping. (I think that's what it's called, I'm no sound engineer).

Just to add comments about the enhanced panels or whatever they're called on HD. I think they're a great idea, but overused on Sunrise, very distracting. By all means let it cycle through the weather every 10 mins or so, but not constantly, it gets boring and distracting. Don't use it for the sake of it.

Thanks, The Geek and Chie, for the info and clarification.

I know my comment is perhaps an unfair one, but seeing Matt Smith presenting the flagship Live at Five, is akin to Lizo (or whatever his name is) presenting BBC News at Ten or Panorama! It just doesn't feel right, although Matt is clearly a very capable anchor.

I guess all those years on the red carpet somewhat dilutes ones credibility, which is again a very unfair statement but reality. I wonder why Martin or one of the Anna's couldn't fill in on LAF.

Agreed, this is Sky News' top slot, and to use an entertainment reporter who wasn't even presenting any news slot only a few months ago is really not good. He's decent enough, but someone of higher status surely could have filled in.

Stephen Dixon had his iPad out on News at Ten yesterday, seems like this will be their new tablet pc. Wonder how Kay Burley will adapt to more technology.

Has she ever had a problem adapting to new technology?

Not sure, but she'll probably blame a mistake that she makes on it.

Thomas, what are you talking about?

Why did you feel the need to bring Kay Burley up if something like this has never happened to her before?
