this is a TV presentation forum where redundancies made - unbelievably - affect presentation

Yep. Obviously.

But that doesn't require BSkyB to give out names of who's leaving the company.

Absolutely. It would be bizarre if Sky put out a press release saying they had made redundancies, let alone list the names of the people who they had chosen to sack from the channel.

Who said anything about a press release?

I was thinking more along the lines of the biographies section of the Sky News press site, and also the EPG data.

They will have to update those at some point, and that will be confirmation.

Yep. Obviously.

But that doesn't require you to bring in a completely irrelevant point about 'your local Tesco'.

Perhaps when they, you know, actually leave it would be suitable to update EPGs and biographies.

I actually agree with Jugalug on this one.

You shouldn't sound so surprised at that - he's a smart one.

Awww. Thanks Gav.

Why is it irrelevant? They're both businesses. I don't expect names when Tesco make redundancies, I don't expect names when Sky do. Lost The Remote said:

When are they going to confirm exactly who is leaving the network?

...and I imagine they have. Just not to the public.

I am told sport restructuring should be made public soon and will be taking place over the summer.

An aside - during a report on the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico this morning, what appeared to be an incorrect film spooled across the inset in the news wall. What I'm interested in is the line 'No Access Sky' and its possible meaning. Would this be a film that Sky News shouldn't use, or just that at the time Sky wasn't able to be there to report the event?

Just one of those oddities that crop up occasionally.

I was wondering if it had already started. The sports presenters now wearing 'Sky Sports HD' badges and yesterday I noticed when Jon Desborough was doing the sport on Afternoon Live, 'Sky Sports News' was right across the newswall in giant typeface.

Yep, it appears that cosmetic changes like that have already taken place, probably to make it more seamless when the restructuring of personnel kicks in.

It's archive footage from 1989.

You can see details of the footage here: http://www.itnsource.com/shotlist//RTV/1989/09/15/BGY603120169/
