If the rumoured sackings of Geoff Meade and Chris Roberts are true then it is a great loss to Sky News. However while Sky have lots of capable presenters to take over from Chris who did not really have a major role in the schedule anyway, they will surely want to have a defense correspondent at a time when Britain is involved in the Afghan War.

And why was that?
The likes of JT is very fortunate that the bosses have full faith in him and he has such a high-profile gig in Live at Five.
Chris has been sidelined for ages presenting only a few regular slots a week and some occasional reporting. He's covered pretty much every slot under the sun though over the past year or two, including News at Ten on Christmas Day of all shifts.
His hard work and diligence was rewarded with a P45.

What about Anna Botting, Steve Dixon, Anna Jones, Gillian Joseph? They have also covered pretty much every slot over the past two years also, and the latter two not having any more regular slots than him.
Oh and JT, has presented on Christmas day also, and a few Bank Holiday Mondays this year.
Just because you choose to do overtime, it doesnt makes you worth keeping.

Am I correct to assume that with all this inside knowledge you must work for Sky News?

Don't think its fair to pick on JT. Obviously if Chris has lost his job then obviously that is terrible news for him. But if they have to cut costs it is understandable that Chris is at risk as he is a senior presenter and probably commands a higher salary than the likes of Matt Smith but does not have a permanent slot in the weekday schedule and has been relatively sidelined to the weekend and Saturday Live.

What inside knowledge? I was just quoting facts based on what I know from what I have noticed as a daily viewer of the channel.
I'm sorry if it offends you, but I do feel quite passionately about this. Chances are if I worked for Sky News I'd be keeping my gob shut in case I was next!
Samantha Simmonds should have a proper slot. Although double heading needs to return, and get rid of these stupid shows like Afternoon Live and 15 mintue crap.
If they're cutting costs by getting rid of presenters like Chris Roberts, I find it tough to see them spending excess money by returning to double-headed presentation. NSW is another cost saving measure so don't expect to see that change either.

Absolutely, double headed presentation on Sky News is a thing of the past. It has turned out to be an effective move in my opinion, there is no real need for it in the new Sky News set up and perhaps the same will be the case of the weather changes. I like Francis and feel for the weather team but I can see the thought behind the changes, not only is it cost efficient but there is perhaps a feeling that the idea of weather presenters is a bit dated which I can appreciate.
This situation regarding Chris Roberts and Geoff Meade is more concerning. Once again I can understand, but not approve of, the reasoning behind Chris leaving the channel, I suspect they have other presenters who work at a lower wage rate and unlike Kay,Eamonn,Dermot and JT he is not a regular feature in the main schedule. He has however been a great contributer to Sky down the years and I wish him well. I am slightly bemused by Geoff Meade leaving, as someone else has previously mentioned it would be bizarre not having a defense reporter in times like these.
I’d find it absolutely bizarre for them to get rid of Lisa Burke rather than Lucy.
I’m wondering whether the decision for Geoff Meade could also be influenced by the fact that he’s near retirement age too. It could be a partially mutual decision, I guess. Sky have plenty of decent reporters to cover defence issues such as Tim Marshall, Stuart Ramsay, Michelle Clifford and Mark Stone so perhaps they’ll share the brief around now.
Shame to see Chris Roberts go. However, since the shake-up, the positions of him and Mark Longhurst have both looked quite shaky. I think both are greatly superior to the likes of Gillian Joseph and Samantha Simmonds and are stronger assets, but I guess they’re also on higher wages.
Also read elsewhere that Rona Dougall, Scotland Correspondent, is another one set to go.
