What did he say?

A couple of weeks in to the refreshed graphics and I'm still not a fan of the single line strap, they often run out of space and it runs off the end of the screen, BREAKING NEWS : SYRIA CRISIS bit is way too big, I think it looks a lot better when that bit is smaller and you have the bigger single line text strap, if they go back to the 2 line strap it will take up no more screen space and let them put more info on the strap than ever before if needed, The current set up is too restrictive

The Press Preview graphics are awful as they use 3 different sized graphics which used to animate flawlessly now they sort of start to fly out and then vanish to be replaced by a totally different sized graphic

Other than that I like it but they still have not increased the market black box height by a pixel to line up with the sky news logo

And the fact that they still haven't made the graphics use up the full screen.

I don't like the set up on HD or SD now to be honest, they should have ported the HD version over to SD, which was full 16:9. Now you have a small safe area either side in both SD and HD.

The amount of space used for graphics on HD has been less previous the changes, used to be almost up to the edge now there is a very visible margin on the left and right.

What you have now is a compromise between the two, no doubt it's easier for Sky News now they don't maintain two different graphic feeds, but it's introduced some of the above issues onto HD as well thanks to the margins that have been introduced.

They really should make the OLD pre 16:9 SD, Graphics that were on HD the norm across both channel. They don't have such a big margin on Sky Sports News SD, or HD so why should we have it on Sky News? Either got 16:9 fully or give us back what we had before on both channels please.

I've made a quick mock up using tonights graphics of some of my earlier suggestions

Do you prefer A, B, C or D?

I think for me its C because the BREAKING NEWS : SYRIA CRISIS bit looks too big on A the single line strap, too small on D the double line strap, its balanced out with the double line strap at its current size on B but making it slightly smaller would mean very little screen space would be lost to bring it back on C

I would vote for "A".

Never been a fan of two lines of text on an enclosed strap.

I vote for getting rid of that awful margin on the left on HD, going back to how it used to be and rolling that out to SD.;

None of them are full screen Laughing but if I had to go for one with 2 lines, it'd be C. But 1 line would suffice as it usually gets in all the information required.

Sorry, not watched Sky News for so long - and not been on this forum for ages properly as nothing happening in world of pres at the moment - which of the above is the one Sky are now using?

Have always hated Sky's messy graphics with their 3D look. Time for an iOS7 style rebrand I think.

It was never without safe areas - the safe area may have increased in size, but there was never a time where there was no safe area.

As someone who only puts on Sky News HD every so often, I didn't notice a difference to the old graphics whatsoever. The margins looked fine to me.

Sky News and 3D graphics? Did I miss something? American news channels have 3D graphics but not Sky News.

I think what he meant was the faux glass, gloss, reflections, etc. It's all very skeuomorphic and is against the current trend of flat, clean, minimal design.
