Problems with TOTH, onscreen graphics, presentation and suchlike overnight are nothing new. They are going on for at least 18 months. Generally from 6am to midnight you see some kind of consistency with presentation, but once it hits midnight, and especially the 3am to 6am portion, all that goes out the window and they tend to be using different styles of presentation to what is used during the day.

A couple of weeks ago before going to the airport I saw the 3am strand which lacked the proper TOTH and instead just had a panning of the Sky News HD logo, and the voiceover for "This is Sky News, with Hannah Tallett" started before the TOTH music finished, it then cut to Hannah in the Studio, with the Studio, where Hannah read the Headlines, with the only strap being "Top Stories" for every headline followed by a swish, but not the graphic that usually accompanied it.

Then went to the first story and the red strap was Sky News with the white bit underneath showing nothing but names of people and no detail on any story. There are numerous events like this and often I've seen news after midnight with no graphics at all apart from the ticker and logo.

Also the animations used on straps appear rather than animate or fade in like they do during the day.

That is the :30 open for World News, as broadcasters around the world may only take it for half an hour, They can't run the TOTH sequence because it is just that the Top Of The Hour

Yes, normally it is, but it's happened at the TOTH as well on at least one occasion.

I noticed this morning's (00:30hrs) broadcast on Sky News of The CBS Evening News, was 4:3
stretched to 16:9. Is CBS News native 4:3, or was it just a one off cock up by Sky forgetting to ARC things correctly ?

Have also seen that a few times over the past days at the TOTH. As you say just the panning logo before cutting to the studio. Think it still retains the normal music.

Having seen 12 minutes of this 11pm bulletin I've saw the breaking news aston come up with the swish three times about the same news which was reported in the 10pm bulletin, there is nothing new there.

Isn't that overdoing it a little bit? I've heard a swoosh and then Gillian say "And some breaking news now" three times, only to find out it's what she already came out with in the last hour almost word for word.

Normally with such news which hasn't just broken but in the last hour or so they'll use the breaking news strap without the swoosh and without the type of word Gillian uses. It makes it seem something new when it isn't and is misuse of this sound.

A disadvantage of the new shoebox set is, that it obviously canīt be converted into a two-sided sofa area , which Kay Burley often used during the afternoon , for example in famous interviews as the one with Peter Andre. So we probably wonīt see her using the shoebox again when she is presenting.

She's used it several times since it's been there! They just use one side.

Indeed, yesterday, she used it for the 3.30pm half hour to interview the 'Charlie Bit My Finger' boys for YouTube's birthday, she kept going though, with several following stories, such as the horse doping, also being presented from there.
