I'm glad to hear you're as rocked at the explosions as other people here... oh, wait.

Slight change to the split screen today for the funeral coverage instead of the usual boxes the screen is split right down to the ticker with the location just above the ticker, I hope they don't decide to do this full time as its annoying when reading the graphics when they suddenly vanish to show the location

I actually rather liked it. They didn't always show the location strap, sometimes the normal straps were there instead, on HD anyway.

Do the overnight team at Sky News not know how to operate the on screen astons? It seems to be after midnight half the time, with a big breaking news story - the output seems to be aston-less.

And now the ticker is jammed on yellow static.

It seems Sky can either have astons and no ticker or vice versa. The overnight team really need to sort their act out.

But these problems only ever happen overnight, does anyone know why? As I say it just seems the overnight gallery team don't know how to use Viz properly.

Wow. They have a Breaking News Aston and wipe for the first report of an earthquake but use absolutely nothing for the manhunt? They can't be serious.

Yes, I saw that too - with full animation and sound effects. Wink

Now using Fox Mews with Sky graphics super-imposed. Which looks stupid.

I don't know why they didn't just use Fox earlier; Sky's coverage has been terrible.

Or CBS who've also been covering it. I know for obvious reasons, they don't like to use Fox News on Sky, just in case the presenters or reporters blurt out something stupid.

I wouldn't mind, but the ad breaks overnight seem to be mainly trailers for other Sky channels anyway.

Problems with TOTH, onscreen graphics, presentation and suchlike overnight are nothing new. They are going on for at least 18 months. Generally from 6am to midnight you see some kind of consistency with presentation, but once it hits midnight, and especially the 3am to 6am portion, all that goes out the window and they tend to be using different styles of presentation to what is used during the day.

A couple of weeks ago before going to the airport I saw the 3am strand which lacked the proper TOTH and instead just had a panning of the Sky News HD logo, and the voiceover for "This is Sky News, with Hannah Tallett" started before the TOTH music finished, it then cut to Hannah in the Studio, with the Studio, where Hannah read the Headlines, with the only strap being "Top Stories" for every headline followed by a swish, but not the graphic that usually accompanied it.

Then went to the first story and the red strap was Sky News with the white bit underneath showing nothing but names of people and no detail on any story. There are numerous events like this and often I've seen news after midnight with no graphics at all apart from the ticker and logo.

Also the animations used on straps appear rather than animate or fade in like they do during the day.
