Despite all the hype and the size of the newsroom behind them, I don't think the BBC News relaunch turned out to be anything special. Sure, it feels fresh now and is a lot better than what went before but it isn't exactly anything original or innovative. The studio E set up is nice and looks good on some wide shots but I'm not as blown away by it as I thought I would be.
Plus, content wise the BBC NC is the same as it was before (very solid but a little dull for my liking). Indeed one of the few significant changes to their output, 'The Papers' at 10.30 and 11.30 is a carbon copy of Sky's Press Preview.
What they have done is moved into a more modern facility but kept the output and style the same - and they are right to do so, their audience clearly likes the service they provide in the same way that Sky's audience likes the service they provide. I think I am right in saying that Sky News achieves a bigger weekly share now than a couple of years ago when presenters were strolling about the set. They regained a sense of what the channel is supposed to be, ditched the silly formats (News, Sport, Weather etc) and kept it simple. The studio presentation might not feel as fresh as it once did but it is a good few years old now. And graphics wise Sky remain leagues ahead (certainly on the HD channel anyway).
And what do you think then that the BBC NC is now even more innovative and varied than Sky News? Maybe a roll swap?

Sky beats BBC hands down in terms of journalism - I've never been a fan of the BBC NC but having watched it lately just to sample the new look (I find the newsroom background incredibly distracting) I discovered quite how shockingly bad some of their reporters and corespondents are.
Does anyone else get the impression the BBC employs certain people just to fill quotas, including but not limited to disability, rather than employ someone based on talent?

indeed, and that repetitive pan at the top-of-the-hour is an inferior version of something Sky and Al Jazeera English have been doing for years. and the paper review rip-off is shameless.
its a good thing it has the BBC News brand value and quality, otherwise I cannot think of a single original innovative development the BBCNC has brought to the table in its existence

Slight change to sunrise this morning after the headlines we cut to Stephen Dixon at the newswall but after a couple of minutes of talking about the budget welfare changes he was back in the normal sunrise area

Why a "change" ? I bet they only do this today .

Where? Really? I ONLY SAW Isabel Webster, Paul Harrison, Rachel Younger at the newswall!
Do you mean Paula Middlehurst was at the newswall?
Considering you've been moaning about them using the newswall more for a long time now, I'd have thought you would be jumping for joy that they got the main presenter at the TOTH on the newswall.

Strange that I only saw ISABEL WEBSTER at the newswall!
Nevertheless I bet this was the last time they used the newswall for the next 2 weeks!
