Sky News seem to have updated their backdrop, or Kay is sitting lower down at the desk. One or the other.

Well she is in fron of the gallery ?!

Usually though, when presenters are in front of the gallery, all you see is the gallery monitors, not the newsroom desks (or in this case Martin Stamford sitting in the background).

No , this happens often when Kay Burley is presenting, she seems to sit very low. You often see this with the newsroom backdrop, but because Kay usually only presents with newsroom backdrop, this seems news for you.

EDIT: AS you just could see during the Voice Over , they are changing NOTHING with any backdrop Mad

OK! I was wrong, apologies.

I bet the rotator is broken. It has been in use for nearly 8 years so maybe it's packed up.

About a year old at this stage but it was noted a while back that Sky's master plan for the redevelopment of their West London campus includes the demolition of the current Sky News Centre.

The proposal submitted to Hounslow Council is available publicly online,

http://democraticservices.hounslow.gov.uk/mgConvert2PDF.aspx?ID=67246

Plan is for the development to phased in over 10 years. Drawing of what the new site layout might be is on page 60.

Page 76 states that,
Quote:
With the exception of Sky Studios and Sky 8, the remainder of the buildings and structures on the site will be demolished. The existing buildings that will be demolished are Sky 1, Sky 2 Sky 3, Sky 4, Sky 6 and Sky 7, as well as Athena Court and the Harrods warehouse.

Not certain on this but I think Sky News is located in the 'Sky 1' building?

Edit: Google Maps would appear to confirm that it is indeed in 'Sky 1',

That means ten years more of boring presentation ?

It's being implemented in phases and phase 1, which has planning permission, does include two broadcast studios within a six-storey building - but obviously no way of knowing whether they will be for Sky News or how long they will take to build and make operational.

Looks like the desk rotator has been fixed as the desk is now on the newsroom backdrop.

Thank God for that! Very Happy

Nice use of a screen and an ipad by Ed Conway in the Millbank newsroom to illustrate cuts in government spending. Illustrated the story well.

Can't help but think that bringing some of the innovative and more unique pieces that are being made by Ed, Mark Stone and others exclusively for Sky News' iPad app onto the TV channel might freshen things up a bit.

Does anyone else think the channel is due for another revamp before long? Everything just seems so stale again at the moment. The graphics have only had slight modifications since they first arrived in 2008. The same presenters have been stook in the same slots for so long and the studio is just looking cheap and dated (In particular the main desk). Not to complain too much, but when comparing the overall presentation to that of the 2005 and pre 2005 era, everything appeared to be far more lively and watchable back then.

Shocking that NOTHING happened at Sky News since this post in mid 2011!

That is because it is a News Channel and not a tech demo for graphics, and there is nothing wrong with it. People watch Sky News for the quality of journalism and to see the latest news and views, not to see flashy graphics.

The idea of the graphics is to help convey that news and they do that right now very well. No point in trying to be flashy for the sake of it. The current graphics on HD are very classy. I do agree on SD they look a little tired but on HD they are perfect.

My thoughts exactly. When the channel was still in 4:3 and in the older smaller studio, people on here were moaning about the blocky graphics but the channel was way ahead of it's time.

You can still quickly switch on the channel and immediately know if there's any breaking news or pretty quickly catch up on the headlines. It does the job perfectly, and yes if you're watching in HD, the graphics, and the side panels are first class. No other channel does the same.

And what do you think then that the BBC NC is now even more innovative and varied than Sky News? Maybe a roll swap?
