Wouldn't expect anything else from forumers than bashing Sky News on the day the BBC relaunch. I am amused by the criticism.

Has anyone mentioned that one of the first things the BBC news channel did since its relaunch was have a promo for its new 10:30 and 11:30 paper preview. Where have we seen a 10:30 & 11:30 paper preview before?

Seeing bits of the BBC relaunch it is very clear that Sky News graphics and lower thirds are far superior to those launched today by the BBC NC.

Today for coverage on Hacking I found myself turning off the flustered Norman Smith who was waving his hands all over the place and chose Joey Jones the ever assured analyser of what was going on informing the audience of the Breaking News.

And yet Sky News gets its usual bashing on here...some perspective please.

I don't have any real problem with the content on Sky, perhaps a little more indepth at times. Correspondents both UK and foreign are well respected in the main and report well. However, most of the day consists of one presenter sat in front of the same backdrop - boring!! Where is the newswall, use of the studio and banter between presenters has gone being sole presentation. I agree the lower third on Sky is better but have to admit I like how the lower third on the BBC graphics fill the whole width of the screen.

Setting aside presentation, Sky News is clearly the worst TV news in the country.

There you go, some perspective.

Please do elaborate because content wise I think Sky actually competes very well with BBC and ITV. I believe their foreign correspondents are outstanding and their coverage of the financial crisis has been excellent and suprerior to Peston and his BBC cohorts.

Sky News's opinionated, and at times tabloid-esque, reporting is worse than the BBC and ITN. This is meant to be a presentation thread, so I shan't elaborate.

Also, Kay Burley.

I think that, despite their flashy new studio, BBC News still lacks the slickness and pace of Sky News. I couldn't disagree more with the comments that Sky need to stand up more, use their newswall all the time, etc. They have the right balance for the style of the channel. I'm finding all the standing up and sweeping camera shots off-putting on BBC News today.

It's teleVISION, listen to the radio if you're not keen on swooping shots?

Really? TeleVISION means swooping shots all over the bloody place?

Yes, TeleVISION requires American Idol style shots all the time. How else could one concentrate on what's going on without the camera rotated 45° and panning at top speed?

Sky News seem to have updated their backdrop, or Kay is sitting lower down at the desk. One or the other.

Usually though, when presenters are in front of the gallery, all you see is the gallery monitors, not the newsroom desks (or in this case Martin Stamford sitting in the background).
